With no news of Ben Roethlisberger actually retiring, the sportsbooks made Pittsburgh the second choice in the AFC with a projected win total of 10.5.
The Steelers will still be loaded offensively and the defense should be the best one coach Mike Tomlin has had in four years. Here a breakdown of how Pittsburgh beats the NFL odds or comes up short.
Wins You Can Count On: While there is no such thing as a lock, for money line NFL picks, you have to like the Steelers chances against Cleveland in Weeks 1/17. At Minnesota with will require a lot of effort, but unless the Vikings offense is dramatically different, Pittsburgh should be 2-0. In Weeks 3-5-7 are at Chicago, Jacksonville, and Cincinnati, which should result in W's. After a Week 9 bye, Big Ben and friends should be ready for two contests in five days, at Indianapolis and home to Tennessee and a Christmas Day trip to Houston should also produce a victory.
Games That Could Go Either Way: Any conflict with Baltimore is always a physical battle and this figures to be no different. Home or away this are always challenging contests. Normally a matchup with Green Bay even at home would most likely be in the category below, however, having 10 days between games elevates in Pittsburgh's favor. Right after Packers confrontation is a trip to Cincinnati and though the Steelers usually play well there, this could tough spot.
Real Trouble Spots: Though Pittsburgh could certainly stumble at Baltimore in Week 4, 14 days later they are at Kansas City which should be a handful. The next week they face the Bengals for the first time and that is followed up by a trip to Detroit. The Steelers should win, however, the Lions will be rugged at home. Finally, after taking on the Packers, Cincy, and Baltimore, Pitt draws their nemesis New England. Enough said.
