Both of these AFC teams will likely be fighting for a playoff spot by the time the end of the season rolls around, and for this preseason matchup, the NFL Odds have the Bengals as -3 ½ favorites, with a total of 41 ½.

Rex Ryan vs. Marvin Lewis
These two coaches have been going at it for a while now, and in this preseason meeting, both will be trying for the win. However for Rex Ryan, his team isn’t necessarily the greatest offensive threat. The Bengals’ defense won’t be as good as last season, and the starters won’t play long, but still the Jets might have some trouble scoring this week while trying to evaluate talent at the same time. There has been no word on how long either team will be playing their starters, however for the Jets it might not matter offensively.

Ryan is a below .500 coach in the preseason, however in Week 2, he has gone 3-2 SU in his career. However  Marvin Lewis has owned the second week of the preseason during his career, going 8-3 SU. I expect him to play his starters more than the average this week. Last season Andy Dalton played into the second quarter, and I expect him to get a similar amount of snaps this week. Plus, Jason Campbell is a solid quarterback despite not playing well in Week 1 of the preseason. He should bounce back and own the Jets’ second and third string defense.

Not only do the Bengals have those two guys, but second year quarterback Matt Scott didn’t have a bad game last week either. He was 7/11 with two touchdowns through the air against the Chiefs, and he ran for another 68 yards on the ground on only six carries. If the Bengals don’t have the lead by the time Scott gets into the game, they may get it before the game is over.

The Sharp Pick
Even though the Bengals lost last week, they should play well at home against the Jets no matter who is in the game. When choosing your NFL picks, keep in mind Chris Ivory is banged up for the Jets and he is one of their only credible threats offensively. I doubt the Jets put him in harms way after sustaining a rib bruise in the first preseason game. Ivory has been known for being injured often, and it would be smart of the Jets to hold him out.

With only the veteran Chris Johnson to run the ball, the Jets may not be able to gain much on the ground during this game. If that’s the case, the Bengals should win this game.

Cincinnati is 2-1 SU in their last three preseason Week 2 games where they lost the week before, and with the Jets’ offensive issues, they won’t be able to keep up with the talented two quarterbacks playing backup in Cincinnati. Anything Dalton gives you in the beginning against a stout Jets defense is bonus, but in the end the should be the Bengals’ week.
