Week 3 of the NFL preseason is always the most fun, and this week the up and coming Bears take on the defending Super Bowl champs, in Seattle. The NFL Odds largely favor the Seahawks at -7, with a total of 45 points.

Seattle’s Dress Rehearsal
If these two coaches coach this game like they did Week 3 of the 2013 preseason, then these starters are going to get some extended run. Both starting offenses stayed in the game for most, if not the entire first half in their respective games last season in Week 3, and both quarterbacks got some good work in Week 2.

Russell Wilson actually played into the 3rd quarter in last season’s preseason Week 3 game against the Packers, although I’m sure it was a snaps issue. With Seattle likely using this game as a dress rehearsal for the regular season, you have to think they will give Marshawn Lynch some run at his old team. Lynch got on the field last week, but he didn’t touch the football, so you have to believe after another week of practice that he’ll he ready to get some touches against the Bears.

Bears Undefeated in Preseason
So far the Bears have wins over the Eagles and Jaguars respectfully, and even though it wouldn’t mean anything in the long run, a preseason win over the defending Super Bowl champions would be a moral victory for the Bears, to say the least. As +7 NFL odds underdogs, Chicago has a shot to stay competitive in this game, even after the starters leave the game.

Jay Cutler is going to have a time with the Seahawks defense, however the Bears’ offense is still very capable of scoring on most anyone. There is some concern that they are missing right tackle, Jordan Mills, which has really put a damper on their running game, and offense in general. However for this game, I suspect the Bears will forgo rushing the ball too much, and instead making the Seahawks defend the Bears’ deep and threatening passing attack. With the signing of Santonio Holmes, the Bears might be able to claim the best receiving core in all of football once Marquees Wilson returns. Holmes will probably get some work in this game, and it could be with the starters some. Wilson will miss the first half of the season with a broken collarbone, so Holmes could be great for this team and in this game if he is in shape and has anything left at age 30.

The Sharp Pick
Right now it’s hard for me to believe that any team is going to cover -7 in a preseason game, even if it is Week 3, and even if it is the Hawks. Chicago could be one of the better NFC teams by season’s end, and even though their defense is concerning, it should perform well against the Seahawks. As long as they can stop the run better than they were last week, look for the Bears to cover this lofty spread against the Seahawks with your NFL pick. A backdoor cover late in the game once the Seattle starters are out is where I think it will go.
