Week 4 is here and there’s still a lot of ball left to play. However, teams are already without their top stars and the underdogs are taking the spotlight. But as far as New England and the Kansas City Chiefs go, they’re doing OK.
New England Patriots vs. Kansas City Chiefs
Sunday, October 04, 2020 – 04:25 PM EDT at Arrowhead Stadium
In a Sunday afternoon matchup the Patriots (2-1) travel to Patrick Mahomes’ territory to take on him and the KC Chiefs. In case you missed Monday Night Football’s game, Mahomes and the Chiefs reminded everyone who is still the best team in the league a 34-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
Why Patriots Will Win
The Patriots are coming off of a blowout torching the Raiders 36-20. The Pats racked in 250 yards on the ground and two scores. Cam Newton didn’t have much ground game himself, only running for only 27 yards, a week after rushing for 47 yards and two scores in Seattle.
In Week 4, Bill Belichick has to figure out a way to contain Patrick Mahomes and this Chiefs offense. It works to his advantage that the Ravens had a nightmare night last Monday and couldn't figure out how to stop this offense. With Belichick at the helm, the Patriots need to contain Tyreek Hill and force Mahomes into bad situations. With a turnover last week, it's crucial that Cam Newton takes care of the football in order for New England to win this game.
Why Chiefs Will Win
The defending Super Bowl champions proved they are without a doubt the team to beat in the NFL.
Monday night, Mahomes handled Baltimore’s defense completing 73.8% of his passes for 385 yards and 4 scores. He also added 26 yards and a touchdown on the ground. With this road victory, the young QB improves to a perfect 10-0 career in September throwing 32 touchdowns in those contests. He also made history becoming the fastest quarterback in the league to reach 10,000 passing yards in just 34 games.
The Chiefs’ offense played their part racking up 517 total yards and converting on 10-of-13 third downs. The Chiefs are now on a 12-game winning streak and are 10-1-1 against the spread.
Going against the New England Patriots isn't the same matchup that was expected for the last 20 years without Tom Brady. The Chiefs defensively with their mediocre run defense need to limit Cam Newton in the run game and force him to throw the football. Last week, forcing Lamar Jackson to throw instead of run worked entirely in their favor that led to their huge victory.
The Chiefs just have too many weapons both offensively and defensively. However, I think Belichick can figure out a way to deal with Mahomes. Where they’ll fall short is focusing on stopping the Chiefs’ defense. The NFL odds opened up at -8 this week but now my go-to sportsbook BookMaker has it at a -6 1/2 point spread for KC. That's what we’re rolling with.
