Panthers vs. Falcons: Week 14 NFL Picks & Game Predictions

This NFC South battle is between two teams that seem to be heading nowhere fast. The Panthers just fired head coach Ron Rivera after 9 years while Falcons coach Dan Quinn could be headed for the same fate. Will we have a repeat of Week 11 when the Falcons destroyed the Panthers or will the Panthers be motivated with a change of regime?

Two Disappointing Teams Looking Ahead to Next Year

When the Panthers travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons (1:00 P.M ET/FOX), this will be a situation where both teams are just playing out their remaining games hoping to get into next year with no major injuries. While the Panthers are still mathematically alive in the Wild Card race, nobody in their right mind thinks that this is a playoff team. That being said, we are looking for an angle in this game so let’s get to breaking it down.

The Falcons allowed Matt Ryan to be sacked nine times last week and that’s a massive problem coming into this one. The Panthers have the most sacks in the NFL and the Falcons are one of the worst teams at protecting their QB. On top of that, Matt Ryan has been turning the ball over a lot lately and that’s part of the Panthers’ recipe for success. Carolina is 0-7 on the season when they have less than two takeaways in a game. Even if the Falcons wanted to run the ball more, we haven’t seen any evidence they can even get that done. Luckily, the Panthers are the worst team in the league when it comes to yards per carry allowed.

Line Movement Shows Money is on Atlanta

This line opened at -1 Falcons with the at Total 48.5. The early action is on the Falcons and the line has moved up to -3 while the Total is down to 47. This line movement makes sense because the Panders are really not a bet on team at the moment. With the situation with their coach up in the air plus the way the Falcons beat them in their last matchup, most of the betting public will look to the Falcons.

I have a hard time laying points with this Falcons team but the truth of the matter is that the Panthers are not a bet on team right now. Even with their league leading pass rush, their quarterback is a turnover machine right now. I’ll lay the points with the Falcons at home to beat a Panthers team playing with a different coach for the first time since 2010.
