The NFC North title is on the line when the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers collide in week 17 NFL betting.  Find out what NFL odds are currently trading and where the value NFL picks are to be had.

Detroit Lions (11-4, 4-3 away)
Although the Bears were eliminated from the playoff picture, they certainly came out to play behind Jimmy Clausen (starting in favour of the benched Jay Cutler) at Soldier Field and they very nearly embarrassed the Lions. Indeed, Matt Stafford and the Lions were made to earn the pivotal "W" in week 16 NFL betting that kept them in contention for the NFC North title, neck-and-neck with the Packers at 11-4 SU on the season.

When news of the benching made the rounds, the NFL betting odds jumped from 4.5-points to 10-points across various sportsbook betting platforms. Such was the confidence in the Lions' stock value on the road against a second-string quarterback. But after three quarters and the Bears going up 14-10, the Lions were officially on upset alert in NFL betting circles. In the fourth quarter, Joique Bell scored a touchdown run to lift the Lions to a 17-14 lead and then Prater added a 30-yard field goal to seal the 20-14 win.

The Lions were forced to overcome some nervy play by Matt Stafford (intercepted twice) and a blocked field goal attempt early in the fourth quarter, amongst several other things. At the end of the day, they got the win, even if it wasn't pretty. Stafford went 22-of-39 for 243 yards and no touchdowns.

Green Bay Packers (11-4, 7-0 home)
Aaron Rodgers and the Packers bounce back from a disappointing outing in week 15 with a win over the hapless Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road. The pivotal win saw the Packers clinch a playoff berth and, more importantly, keep pace with the Lions atop the NFC North division.  Setting up advantageously with a shot to win the title at Lambeau, where they have been sublime this season with a 7-0 SU record.

Packers proved the biggest favourites to cash against the spread in week 16 NFL betting as they covered the hefty 12-point spread in a 20-3 win.  Rodgers, battling the flu and a strained left calf, went 31-of-40 for 318 yards and a touchdown. And defense stepped up in a big way, holding the Bucs to just 109 yards of total offense, forcing an interception and sacking McCown seven times.

NFL Betting Verdict: Packers -6.5 over Lions
Of all the games on week 17's NFL betting board, this one is shaping up to be a must-see game. Lions are riding a four-game winning streak ahead of this clash, which should send them into this game with a measure of optimism. They can also draw confidence from a 19-7 win over the Packers in week 3 NFL betting, a win that saw them cover as the 1-point home chalk.

Odds makers, however, have stacked the NFL odds against the Lions despite encouraging form and previous success. This doesn't mean the Lions can't pull off the upset. On the contrary, anything can happen in a high stakes game, such as this NFC North Showdown is without any doubt. It's just that the Packers are undefeated at home this season, unapologetically and mercilessly destroying any opposition to descend on Lambeau.

By the numbers, the Packers are 7-0 SU at home and 5-1-1 ATS with a whopping 20.7-point margin of victory. While the Packers may not be as tight as the Lions on the defensive-side of the ball, they can hang with some of the best, including the Lions. They are conceding on average a respectable 21.9-points per game to the Lions' 16.8-points allowed. Where the Packers have the edge is on offense. They boast one of the most potent offenses in the league, averaging 30.4-points per game. They hung 50-plus wins on the Bears and Eagles, as well overcame the Patriots and Falcons in shootout contests. That's simply not something to take lightly and should be considered when making your week 17 NFL picks.
