Our NFL handicapping professional takes us through the betting specifics for Sunday’s Oakland and New Orleans game. Go inside to read this extremely insightful article concluded with a NFL pick.

Raiders vs. Saints 1:00 PM ET
New Orleans will host Oakland on Sunday in what will be each team’s season opener.  These teams haven’t met since 2012, and New Orleans won that contest at Oakland by a lopsided score of 38-17.

According to the NFL week 1 spreads displayed at 5Dimes, the game is a pick, and there’s a posted total of 51.0. It comes as no shock to me, 67% of the volume of totals wagers have been placed on going over. After all, since 11/4/2007, Saints home games have gone 43-27 (61.4%) over the total, and that includes surpassing that number during each of their last 5 played in New Orleans a season ago.

Besides advising you on my NFL predictions, I would be remiss not to point this out as well. 5Dimes is presently offering its customers new and old, some very attractive bonuses. Be sure to visit one the best sportsbooks (5Dimes) in order to take advantage of these opportunities.

Franchises Aspiring Return To Glory Days
Let me take you down memory lane for a bit. Do you remember the 2003 Super Bowl? That’s when a John Gruden led Tampa Bay team crushed Oakland by a score of 48-21. If your recollection has failed you in that regard, let me point out why that game was significant. It signified the last postseason appearance by an Oakland Raider team. As a matter of fact, since that time, Oakland has gone a dismal 59-133 (.307), and it’s now been 12 straight years of failing to attain a winning season. The expectation level for this upcoming 2016-2017 campaign is as high as it’s been in over a decade. However, talk is cheap, and until I see overall positive results, you won’t find me jumping on the bandwagon just yet.

Sean Payton has enjoyed an ample amount of success since taking over as head coach of the Saints in 2005. His record over that course of time has been an outstanding 93-61 (.604), and it includes a 2009 world championship ring. Unfortunately, the good times have subsided in recent years, and New Orleans has failed to make the playoffs during four of the past five seasons. Although, Peyton was suspended for the entire 2012-2013 season when New Orleans went 7-9, and their interim head coach at that time was Joe Vitt. Speaking of a 7-9 record, that’s precisely where New Orleans ended up in each of the previous two seasons.

Compelling League Wide Opening Game Trend
The New Orleans Saints have gone 19-13 over their last 32 home games. Since 1985, home teams playing in their season opener, and they won 19 or more of their previous 32 home games, resulted in those home sides going a combined 164-71 (.698). Considering NFL betting odds have this game labeled as a pick, that straight up record takes on an added overtone.

Final Take and Pick
Since 2008, New Orleans is an outstanding 31-11 (.738) during non-division home games. Additionally, New Orleans is a perfect 9-0 SU&ATS in its previous 9 non-division home games played during the first half of the season. Conversely, despite going 4-4 on the road last year, Oakland is an awful 6-26 in away games throughout the past four years. I’m going with the home town team for one of my Sunday NFL picks.
