NFL Week 9: Who Will the Public Blindly Back?

We have crested the halfway point of the NFL season, and it’s been a wild one in both the game and the betting world. This week’s NFL Odds are a little light because of bye weeks, however there will undoubtedly be some NFL Picks that the public is all over, and you should fade.

Chargers vs. Dolphins
The Chargers are on the road and across the country this week as they head into Miami to play the Dolphins. The NFL odds are surprisingly in favor of the Dolphins at -2, and this has spawned a nice influx of seemingly public bets onto the Chargers. However this far into the season, and this far away from home, should se really be that confident in the Chargers? I don’t think so. The Dolphins are a pretty solid team, and they are good on both sides of the ball. Phillip Rivers would have to have a standout game for the Chargers to really have value here, and with the Dolphins’ defense playing well, that may be wishful thinking. Plus, the Chargers’ defense has not played well over the last two weeks, and even though they were on a short week against the Broncos in Week 8, they have still given up 58 points in their last two games. Don’t blindly back the Chargers here like the public might do. I would lay off this spread.

Eagles vs. Texans
Another game that the public might be all over the road team is the Eagles heading into Houston to play the Texans. The Eagles lost a close game to the Cardinals this past week which luckily didn’t hurt them in the standings thanks to the Redskins’ win on Monday Night Football yesterday. However even though it seems as if most people are jumping in on the Eagles, they may not be the best bet here. The Texans have been playing better, and their defense is shaping up with the return of Jadeveon Clowney. Plus, the Eagles’ pass defense has been atrocious over the course of the season, so even Ryan Fitzpatrick and the balanced Texans offense might be able to move the ball. The NFL Odds for this game favor the Eagles at -2 on the road, however the Eagles are only 1-4 ATS in their last five games as road favorites, and only 2-11-1 ATS in their last 14 games following a game where they allowed 350 or more yards. Don’t be confident in Philly if you are.

Colts vs. Giants
The Colts may be in trouble, but the public may not be catching onto it just yet, even after their loss to the Steelers in such incredibly bad fashion. The Colts’ defense fell apart due to a few big injuries last week, and although they may not all be serious, they are serious enough to give us cause for concern. However this week the NFL odds have the Colts as -3 ½ road favorites on Monday Night Football, against the New York Giants. While New York has been anything but a model of consistency this season, they are still a solid football team at home. They may get back Rashad Jennings this week, which would help their run game, and if the Colts’ defense is missing some people this week, they may not be such a great NFL odds play. Be mindful of this when locking in your NFL picks
