The Cardinals go for the season sweep of the NFC West rival 49ers, who try to beat the equally awful Cleveland Browns to a first win of the 2017 season. And you know what? Survivor Pick: San Francisco.

Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers (+2, 39.5)

An argument could be made that the 49ers were the most uninteresting team in the NFL entering Week 9. Seriously, can you name me five players on that squad if you aren’t a fan and without looking? Doubtful. However, the future of the franchise took a different tack this week when the 49ers traded their 2018 second-round pick, which could be the first of that round, to New England for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in a stunner. It was long expected that Niners coach Kyle Shanahan was going to pursue Redskins free agent Kirk Cousins this offseason considering Shanahan was Cousins’ former offensive coordinator in Washington. Apparently, that’s not going to happen now. Shanahan can get a look at Garoppolo the rest of this year before deciding whether to give the free-agent-to-be a huge contract or simply slap the franchise or transition tag on him. However, third-round rookie C.J. Beathard is expected to start again Week 9 (former starter Brian Hoyer was released). You can’t really ask a QB to come in on such short notice and start. The Niners are off next week so expect Jimmy G in Week 12 vs. Seattle. If San Francisco is going to win a game this year, it’s surely coming at home.

  • Cardinals are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games.
  • 49ers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 vs. NFC West.

Arizona beat San Francisco 18-15 in overtime in Week 4 when Carson Palmer hit Larry Fitzgerald on a 19-yard touchdown pass – the only TD of the game – with 32 seconds left in OT. Palmer directed a seven-play, 75-yard drive with 1:52 to play. However, no Palmer here as he broke his arm in a Week 7 33-0 loss to the Rams in London before last week’s bye for Arizona. Drew Stanton takes over. He’s mediocre at best. Stanton has been with Arizona coach Bruce Arians since 2012, when they were together in Indianapolis, making Stanton the longest-tenured player with Arians. Arizona could really struggle behind Stanton as it is averaging 63.4 rushing yards per game and 3.02 yards per rush -- both ranked 32nd in the league.  Meanwhile, the 49ers have scored just 10 points in each of the past two weeks so why would you even consider going over this total?

  • Under is 5-1 in Cardinals last 6 games overall.
  • Under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.
