Is it me, or are the Chiefs on in prime time like every week this season? It’s their fifth time already. First meeting of 2017 between AFC West rivals. Survivor Pick: Kansas City.

Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs (-7, 43)

Important game for both AFC West teams that each enter on a two-game losing streak. The Chiefs looked like the NFL’s best club in their 5-0 start but the defense has sprung leaks of late. Now, Kansas City might only be the third-best team in the AFC after the resurgent Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers, who already own a head-to-head win over Kansas City. A win here, though, could put the Chiefs back in command of the division. Denver probably needs this more because it could be looking at a 3-6 record with a loss thanks to a trip to NFL-best Philadelphia next week and then a Week 10 matchup against New England. The Chiefs never used to beat the Broncos when Peyton Manning was around, but Kansas City swept last year. It was an overtime thriller in Denver and a 33-10 blowout at Arrowhead. It’s a homecoming for Broncos running back Jamaal Charles, who spent his first nine seasons with the Chiefs and is the franchise’s all-time leading rusher (7,260 yards). He was perhaps the best all-around back in football for a few of those years.

  • Broncos are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games.
  • Chiefs are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 vs. AFC West.

Interesting dilemma here on the total. The Chiefs have one of the best offenses in football behind two MVP candidates in Alex Smith and Kareem Hunt. Smith leads the NFL in passer rating and completion percentage and is probably the second-choice for MVP right now behind Eagles QB Carson Wentz. Hunt is also a Rookie of the Year favorite in leading the NFL in rushing yards (717) and scrimmage yards (1,002). Hunt is the first rookie in NFL history to gain at least 100 scrimmage yards in each of his team’s first seven games. Meanwhile, the Broncos remain one of the NFL’s best defensive teams but they can’t score at all of late. Behind QB Trevor Siemian, the Denver offense has generated 42 points and three touchdowns in the last four games and has one touchdown in its last 11 quarters. The Broncos were shut out last week for the first time in 25 years. Siemian’s job is likely on the line Monday night even though he got a vote of confidence this week from Coach Vance Joseph. Shoot, Siemian could be benched in this game for Brock Osweiler.

  • Under is 8-1 in Broncos last 9 games following a straight up loss.
  • Under is 19-7 in Chiefs last 26 games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game.
