Trap game for the Falcons after the big rematch and loss in New England in Week 7? Maybe, but I still don’t see the Jets winning outright. Survivor Pick: Atlanta.

Atlanta Falcons at New York Jets (+4, 46.5)

Does Steve Sarkisian have unflattering photos or videos on Falcons head coach Dan Quinn or something? There needs to be an inquiry on why Quinn replaced former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, now the 49ers’ head coach, with Sarkisian this past offseason. What did Sarkisian do to earn that job? He was fired from USC because he showed up to work drunk. He was the offensive coordinator for one game at Alabama last year and pilloried for his play-calling in the national championship loss to Clemson. Maybe it’s just a Super Bowl hangover, but the 2017 Falcons don’t resemble that historically good 2016 offense at all. Interestingly, this is Atlanta’s fourth straight game against an AFC East team and it’s 0-3. I’m going to take the Falcons here because I assume they have some heart, and they are way more talented than the Jets. New York could surpass its season win total projection of 3.5 at many sportsbooks back in August with an upset.

  • Falcons are 5-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
  • Jets are 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games in Week 8.

Monitor the weather for this one because there’s a potential storm system that could hit the New York/New Jersey area. As of this writing, though, I think this will be a modest shootout. The Falcons actually went up-and-down the field on the Patriots quite well. They just kept screwing up in the red zone. Before a meaningless final drive, Matt Ryan was 1-of-6 for 9 yards inside the New England 20. Perhaps the crazy fog was partly to blame. The Jets put up 28 points on a pretty good Dolphins defense in Miami last week. They might have won if not for an incredibly bad late interception by Josh McCown. There were 47 seconds left and the Jets had the ball at their own 15. You have to kneel down and go to overtime there. Miami dropped eight and rushed three, yet McCown threw it into the teeth of that defense regardless. The Jets are terrible in the fourth quarter this year, getting outscored 67-17. They led the Dolphins 28-14 entering the fourth.

  • Over is 8-0-1 in Falcons last nine vs. teams with a losing record.
  • Over is 13-4 in Falcons last 17 games following a loss of at least 14 points.
