The Week 7 matchup between the Chiefs and Raiders looked like one of the best TNF games of the season. Except the Raiders are underachieving. Survivor Pick: Oakland.

Kansas City Chiefs at Oakland Raiders (+3, 47)

The Chiefs and Raiders were both 12-4 season, but Oakland already has matched that loss total and is on a shocking four-game losing streak to sit last in the AFC West – many expected the Raiders to not only win the division but perhaps be New England’s top competition in the conference. Thus, I make this a must-win for Oakland because if it falls to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the division, the season is essentially over already. Derek Carr simply didn’t look right in his return from a back injury Sunday as the Raiders lost 17-16 at home to the Chargers. If the Bolts are winning close games at the end, that opponent is in in trouble! The members of the 1972 Miami Dolphins, those still alive anyway, likely broke out the champagne on Sunday night after Kansas City was upset at home by Pittsburgh, 19-13. The Chiefs had been the NFL’s last unbeaten. Now every team also has an ATS loss. The Chiefs and Bills are the only clubs with just one ATS defeat. Kansas City has won five straight and seven of eight in this series, but the Raiders simply must have it and will play with urgency. I’ll be buying this spread up to 3.5, though.

  • Raiders are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
  • Chiefs are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game.

Raiders coach Jack Del Rio might have made a big mistake in letting offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave leave this offseason and promoting quarterbacks coach Todd Downing to that role. How can an offense with talent like Carr, Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree and Marshawn Lynch – with an excellent offensive line – rank 27th in total offense and be scoring just 20.7 ppg? That latter number is inflated by 45 in Week 2 vs. the Jets as Oakland has managed just 53 points during its four-game skid. Cooper has completely disappeared this year and Lynch hasn’t done much out of retirement. The Chiefs are now second to the Rams in scoring after that season-low 13 points vs. the Steelers. Kareem Hunt was finally held in check with 21 yards rushing on nine carries. He does lead the NFL with 885 scrimmage yards (630 rushing, 255 receiving) and is the only rookie in league history with at least 100 scrimmage yards in each of his team's first six games of a season.

  • Under is 18-6 in the last 24 meetings.
  • Under is 8-1 in Chiefs last 9 vs. a team with a losing record.
