The Denver Broncos ruined Survivor Pools everywhere last Sunday night and look to avoid a second straight loss Sunday at their AFC West rivals. Survivor Pick: Denver.

Denver Broncos at Los Angeles Chargers (-2, 42)

It’s the final meeting between these teams in 2017 barring an unlikely playoff matchup. In Week 1, the Broncos beat the Chargers 24-21 as Shelby Harris got a hand on Bolts rookie kicker Younghoe Koo's 44-yard game-tying field goal try with a second left. Koo had actually hit the kick moments earlier, but Denver coach Vance Joseph had called a timeout to ice the kicker. The Broncos led 24-7 entering the fourth but Philip Rivers made it interesting with two TD passes in the quarter. The Chargers ended up releasing Koo after he missed another last-second kick in Week 2. They have Nick Novak now and he hit a 32-yard field goal last week on the final play in Oakland for a 17-16 upset. It was the Chargers’ second straight late win – they used to give games away in clutch time. I’m struggling on a pick for this game because the Bolts have perhaps the worst home-field advantage in the NFL in that 30,000-seat L.A. soccer stadium that will be likely at least half-filled with Denver fans. But how much do I trust the Broncos after how badly they played last Sunday night vs. the Giants?

  • Broncos are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings at Chargers.
  • Chargers are 4-12 ATS in their last 16 games following a straight up win.

Indeed, maybe the upset of the season was the Broncos as nearly 14-point favorites last Sunday night coming off their bye and facing a Giants team missing its three top receivers and a handful of defensive starters yet still winning 23-10. I don’t know of anyone who saw that coming. The Broncos’ previously top-ranked rush defense allowed 148 on the ground even though Denver knew the Giants had no receivers worth a damn. The Broncos turned it over three times, with Trevor Siemian having two picks. Brandon McManus missed two field goals.  I’m going to count that simply as a letdown game off a bye week and vs. a wounded opponent. Siemian briefly left with a shoulder injury but he’s expected to start. However, No. 2 receiver Emmanuel Sanders has been diagnosed with a sprained ankle, and will miss at least Week 7.

  • Under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings at Chargers.
  • Under is 7-1 in Broncos last 8 games following a straight up loss.
