The 49ers and Browns are the NFL’s two winless teams, but San Francisco has been competitive in every game but one. Can it pull the upset of Dallas here? Survivor Pick: Dallas.

Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco 49ers (+6, 46)

The 49ers have set an NFL record by losing five straight games by three points or fewer. So I guess that’s progress under first-year coach Kyle Shanahan from last season’s dumpster fire under Chip Kelly. It’s just a team that doesn’t know how to win yet. Shanahan is going with rookie quarterback. C.J. Beathard for his first NFL start. He’s a third-round pick out of Iowa, and the Niners might as well see what they have so they can figure out whether they need to sign Kirk Cousins this offseason or take a quarterback with their high first-round pick. In relief of veteran journeyman Brian Hoyer in last week’s loss in Washington, Beathard was 19-for-36 for 245 yards with a touchdown and interception. After the game, Shanahan said he entered the week with an eye toward potentially making a change at quarterback if Hoyer continued to struggle. He did. The Cowboys, meanwhile, come off their bye week and on a two-game losing streak, although they could have won both at home: falling 35-30 to the Rams and 35-31 to the Packers. I’m sure Dallas will win here, but I don’t see why the Niners can’t stay within a field goal again. The team will honor that the 49ers will honor Dwight Clark on Sunday. Of course, he had the “Catch” against Dallas in the 1982 NFC Championship Game.

  • Cowboys are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games.
  • 49ers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. NFC.

Ezekiel Elliott will play Sunday for the Cowboys. This whole thing is getting sillier than Deflategate. On Tuesday in New York, U.S. District Judge Paul Crotty ruled granted a temporary restraining order blocking the NFL’s six-game suspension. That ruling came five days after a federal appeals court overturned a Texas court's injunction that had kept Elliott on the field. What’s ridiculous here is that the TRO was only granted pending a hearing before the presiding judge, Katherine Polk Failla, who is on vacation. So because this judge is on vacation, Elliott will be allowed to play. Stupid. The Cowboys have scored at least 28 points in three straight games. The 49ers have allowed at least 26 in three of their past four. That adds up to 54, so I guess we’re going over here.

  • Over is 6-0 in Cowboys last 6 games following a bye week
  • Over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.
