A Rams-Jaguars matchup in Week 6 looked like one of the worst of the season back in April, but now it’s two improving young 3-2 teams and an intriguing game. Survivor Pick: Jacksonville.

Los Angeles Rams at Jacksonville Jaguars (-2.5, 43)

The Rams won just four games last year but are 2-0 on the road – wins in San Francisco and Dallas – and looking to start 3-0 away from home for the first time since the 2001 St. Louis Rams team that reached Super Bowl XXXVI. After finishing last in the league in scoring in 2016, the Rams lead the NFC with 152 points scored and have scored at least 35 points three times. Jared Goff has taken a big step forward under first-year head coach Sean McVay, and Todd Gurley looks like he did when he was the 2015 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. He leads the NFL with seven touchdowns and ranks second with 646 yards from scrimmage. The former Georgia star is the only player in the NFL with at least 400 rushing yards (405) and 200 receiving yards (241). When’s the last time this sentence was written/typed this late in a season? Jacksonville leads the AFC South. The Jags had the biggest upset of Week 5, 30-9 in Pittsburgh. That ruined Survivor Pools everywhere. Frankly, Jacksonville is winning in spite of quarterback Blake Bortles instead of because of him. These teams are about even, so take the home side. Plus, L.A. has to travel across country.

  • Rams are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up loss.
  • Jaguars are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

Which team wins likely depends on which former star SEC running back has the better day: Gurley or Jags rookie Leonard Fournette. Last week, the ex-LSU standout gashed the Steelers rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns, including a 90-yard TD run. Fournette, who is tied for the NFL lead with five rushing TDs, is the fifth rookie to score at least one touchdown in each of his team’s first five games of a season. Goff struggled in last week’s loss to Seattle, and things get even tougher this week as Jacksonville leads the NFL in pass defense. It picked off Ben Roethlisberger a career-high five times last year and returned two for scores. Jacksonville leads the NFL with 20 sacks, 10 interceptions and four defensive TDs and is the first team in 33 years with at least 20 sacks, 10 interceptions and four defensive TDs in its first five games of a season. Love the under here.

  • Under is 9-2 in Rams last 11 vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Under is 14-6 in Jaguars last 20 games in Week 6.
