Week 6 closes with a rather lame Monday night game, if we are being honest, as the Colts will be going with their backup QB and the Titans might be too. Survivor Pick: Tennessee.

Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans (-7, 47)

There won’t be a line on this game until the oddsmakers get an idea whether Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota will return from a hamstring strain that sidelined him for the second half of a Week 4 blowout loss in Houston and then all of last week’s 16-10 defeat in Miami. Matt Cassel would start again if Mariota can’t go, and simply put: Cassel sucks. Why did the Titans not sign Colin Kaepernick again? Tennessee won’t rush its franchise player back, but this is an important division game as you don’t want to fall to 2-4 and last in the AFC South – although an 8-8 record might win that. The Titans will again be without this year’s No. 5 overall pick, WR Corey Davis, and left tackle Taylor Lewan is questionable with a knee injury. The Colts remain without Andrew Luck and for some reason didn’t simply put him on the PUP list to open the season and open a roster spot. The Titans won’t mind seeing Jacoby Brissett instead of Luck, who is 9-0 in his career against Tennessee. The Colts have won 11 straight and 16 of 17 in the series. I’m going to assume Mariota plays here.

  • Colts are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win.
  • Home team is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings.

Here’s what Cassel has done in his two games: 4-for-10 for 21 yards and two picks vs. the Texans and 21-for-32 for 141 yards (4.41 yards per attempt!) and a TD vs. Miami. Tennessee was held to 188 yards against the Fins because they simply stacked the box and dared Cassel to beat them. He can’t. The Colts have been the NFL’s worst fourth-quarter team this season in terms of points allowed and blew a 23-9 fourth-quarter lead last week vs. the Niners but won in overtime thanks to future Hall of Fame kicker Adam Vinatieri. He made all four of his field-goal attempts, including the game-winning 51-yarder in overtime. Vinatieri has 24 game-winning field goals in the regular season in the final minute of the fourth quarter or OT and 10 game-winners in OT, both the most in NFL history. Indy’s trade for Brissett from New England on the eve of the season has worked out about as well as the Colts could have hoped as he has proven at worst a solid backup and occasional starter. Since the start of the 2016 season, the Colts have won 10 games. In those, T.Y. Hilton’s combined stat line is 68 catches for 1,273 yards and five touchdowns. He had a big game vs. the Niners with nine catches for 177 yards. This should be low scoring even if Mariota does go.

  • Under is 6-1 in Colts last 7 games after accumulating more than 250 yards passing in their previous game.
  • Under is 4-1 in Titans last 5 games following a ATS loss.
