The Lions have won the past three meetings with the Saints, including two straight in the Big Easy. But with New Orleans well rested, I believe that streak ends. Survivor Pick: New Orleans.

Detroit Lions at New Orleans Saints (-4, 51)

The Saints should be quite healthy coming off their bye, although they lost arguably their best offensive lineman, tackle Zach Strief, to injured reserve when he hurt his right knee in New Orleans’ 20-0 win over Miami in London in Week 4. Drew Brees threw for 268 yards and two touchdowns and the Saints scored all but three of their points in the second half. It was the lowest-scoring game ever held in London. Both of Detroit’s losses have come at home following a 27-24 defeat at Ford Field in Week 5. The Panthers scored 24 straight points after trailing the Lions 10-3 early in the second quarter. Detroit QB Matthew Stafford suffered a right leg/ankle injury at some point in the game and had X-rays. I'd be surprised if he doesn't play, but it's no sure thing. Stafford has been under siege of late, sacked 12 times the past two weeks. If he doesn't play, my confidence on this pick skyrockets.

  • Lions are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 vs. NFC.
  • Saints are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games following a bye week.

Is the New Orleans defense actually good now? That unit allowed more than 1,000 yards and 65 points in losing the first two weeks at Minnesota and vs. New England. However, New Orleans has surrendered only 13 points combined the past two games. Of course, it helps one of those was against Jay Cutler. The Saints were the only NFL team that didn’t allow a TD pass in Weeks 3 or 4. Their Total QBR over those two games was 6.4 -- nearly 12 points better than any other defense. Last year, the Lions won 28-13 in New Orleans in Week 13. Stafford threw for 341 yards and two scores. The Lions also became the first team in 60 Saints home games to stop Brees from completing a touchdown pass. He threw for 326 yards and was picked off three times.

  • Under is 22-7 in Lions last 29 road games.
  • Under is 4-0 in Saints last 4 games following a straight up win of more than 14 points.
