The Dolphins are the last team in the NFL to have their home opener, and it’s their latest in a season since 1987 as the Tennessee Titans visit. Survivor Pick: Miami.

Tennessee Titans at Miami Dolphins (+3, total TBA)

In an effort to get you these previews as soon as possible, I have to go a bit blind on my picks at times. This will be one of those. That spread will change depending on whether Titans starting quarterback Marcus Mariota will play. He didn’t in the second half of last week’s blowout loss in Houston because of a hamstring injury. It’s not thought to be serious, but the Titans aren’t going to rush their franchise player back if there’s any concern. Nor should they. The Titans also visited Miami in Week 5 last year and won 30-17. Mariota went 20 for 29 for 163 yards with three touchdowns and ran for a score. The Titans gashed the Dolphins for 235 yards rushing. I like Miami here even if Mariota plays because he surely won’t be 100 percent. And I believe the Fins will be a bit rejuvenated by finally playing at home after traveling all over the USA and to London.

  • Titans are 4-22-3 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
  • Dolphins are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games after accumulating less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.

No total will be posted until Mariota’s status is clear, but it won’t be very high regardless. I’m going to like it under because Miami’s offense has totaled just six points the past two weeks as Jay Cutler simply isn’t a good quarterback. He’s not getting much help from his running game. I would probably bet the house on the under if Mariota is out and it’s Titans journeyman backup Matt Cassel. He went 4-of-10 for 26 yards with two interceptions and a lost fumble in the second half vs. Houston and admitted “you can’t get much worse.” Well, I think Cassel can be worse. The Cassel-led Titans had 24 yards in the second half on 18 plays. His three turnovers on consecutive drives led to 13 Texans points. This week, Tennessee signed Brandon Weeden as the team’s third QB – instead of Colin Kaepernick. No, the league isn’t blackballing Kaepernick or anything!

  • Under is 4-0 in Dolphins last 4 games overall.
  • Under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings in Miami.
