You have to be a pretty devout football fan or bettor on Sunday to care much about a matchup between the winless 49ers and the 1-3 Colts. Survivor Pick: Indianapolis.

San Francisco 49ers at Indianapolis Colts (Pick’em, 44)

This game could have ramifications for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 draft, although I’m presuming the Colts will be a much better team whenever Andrew Luck returns from January shoulder surgery. It won’t be Sunday, though. The good news is that Luck is finally expected to practice this week for the first time since the procedure. So it will be Jacoby Brissett under center again. He will have a new center. Ryan Kelly, the team's normal starter, has been out since the preseason because of a foot injury. And the guy who started the first four weeks, Deyshawn Bond, suffered a torn quadriceps muscle in the Week 4 loss in Seattle. While San Francisco is winless, it is not far from being 3-1 as it has dropped the past three games by a total of eight points. The only game the Niners haven’t covered in 2017 was a Week 1 23-3 loss to Carolina. I’m simply liking the home team here.

  • 49ers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games in October.
  • Colts are 26-9 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.

Does a Brissett against Brian Hoyer quarterback matchup excite you? Yeah, me neither. Indianapolis ranks second-to-last in the NFL in yards per game and, once again, has no running attack to speak of. The Colts are averaging 17.8 points, which is a bit better than where the 49ers are (16.5). The Niners are really banged up. Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is in concussion protocol, while running back Carlos Hyde continues to battle a hip injury he sustained against the Rams in Week 3. As many as four defensive players could be out, led by rookie linebacker Reuben Foster and safety Eric Reid. Both have missed multiple games due to injury. The Indy defense has allowed the most points in the NFL, but I can’t see San Francisco taking advantage of that unit.

  • Under is 5-1 in 49ers last 6 vs. a team with a losing record.
  • Under is 6-1 in Colts last 7 home games.
