Will the NFL have any unbeaten teams left after Week 5? Kansas City is the only one standing and has a tough challenge in Houston in a matchup of top rookies. Survivor Pick: Houston.

Kansas City Chiefs at Houston Texans (Pick’em, 46.5)

The Chiefs are prime-time darlings this season, scheduled for a league-high six games under the lights and this will be their third already. They are the only team without a loss and join the Buffalo Bills as the only clubs without an ATS loss. However, this is a short week for the Chiefs coming off Monday night’s crazy victory over the Washington Redskins. Can’t wait to see K.C. rookie running back Kareem Hunt and Texans rookie QB Deshaun Watson on the same field – although, obviously not at the same time. They are clearly the two early NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year favorites. Houston looks brilliant thus far in trading its 2017 and 2018 first-round picks to Cleveland to move up to No. 12 overall and take Watson. The Browns clearly blew it by not staying put and grabbing the former Clemson star. Kansas City visited Houston early last year and lost 19-12, but both these teams are vastly different now because of their star rookies. The Chiefs have played with fire a few times already, and it will catch up to them here on short rest.

  • Chiefs are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games when playing on Sunday following a Monday night game.
  • Texans are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

Who is the NFL MVP right now? It has to be a Chief. Alex Smith is leading the NFL in quarterback rating and playing by far the best football of his career. Hunt leads the NFL in rushing and is just the fourth player in NFL history to start his career with four straight games of 100 yards from scrimmage or more, joining Billy Sims, LaDainian Tomlinson and Adrian Peterson. Strong list. Hunt’s 659 scrimmage yards in his first four career games are second to only Sims in league history. Houston put up a whopping 57 points last week, a franchise record, in a 43-point wipeout of Tennessee. Watson threw for 283 yards and four scores while rushing for another to join Fran Tarkenton (Sept. 17, 1961) as the only rookies in NFL history to throw for at least 250 yards with four TDs and rush for a TD in the same game. Watson is the only rookie QB at least seven passing touchdowns and two rushing TDs in his team’s first four games of a season. Amazing what one home run draft pick can do for a team. Now the Chiefs and Texans are legit Super Bowl contenders.

  • Over is 5-2 in Chiefs last 7 games overall.
  • Over is 7-0 in Texans last 7 games following a ATS win.
