Arizona has won five of the last six meetings with Philadelphia, including a 40-17 victory in 2015. That was the next-to-last game coached by Chip Kelly for the Eagles. Survivor Pick: Philadelphia.

Arizona Cardinals at Philadelphia Eagles (-6.5, 45)

In my opinion, the Cardinals and Eagles are franchises heading in opposite directions. Arizona has an aging, past-his-prime quarterback in Carson Palmer and is trending down. Philadelphia has a rising star at quarterback in second-year Carson Wentz and leads the NFC East. The Cards have alternated losses and wins over their four games but are lucky to be 2-2 as both victories were in overtime – and against two of the NFL’s worst teams in Indianapolis and San Francisco. Philadelphia has been a bit fortunate to win the past two weeks over the winless Giants and Chargers as those were by a combined five points. But Philly also has a quality victory at Washington and played really well in its lone loss at Kansas City, arguably the NFL’s best team thus far.

  • Cardinals are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up win.
  • Eagles are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall.

Arizona’s defense, which ranks 20th in points allowed, got some bad news on Monday when it was revealed that edge rusher Markus Golden suffered a torn ACL and is obviously out for the season. Golden led Arizona with 12.5 sacks in 2016. Offensively, Arizona can’t run the ball (last in rushing at 57.0 yards per game) and can’t protect Palmer. He sacked a league-high 17 times this season. He's also been hit 29 times, tied for sixth-most in the league. Meanwhile, Philly ranks third in the NFL in rushing behind a rejuvenated LeGarrette Blount. Last week against the Chargers, Blount finished with 136 yards on 16 carries (8.5 ypc) to pace a ground game that racked up 214 yards. The Eagles are averaging 40 rushes per game in their past two. Arizona allows only 88.0 rushing yards per game.

  • Over is 16-5 in Cardinals last 21 road games.
  • Over is 7-2 in Eagles last 9 games overall.
