Not sure that it’s any solace, but the Chargers look like the best 0-3 team in the NFL. They try for their first win as L.A.’s new team as the Eagles travel across country. Survivor Pick: LA Chargers.

Philadelphia Eagles at Los Angeles Chargers (-1, 47.5)

There was some talk heading into the 2016 draft that the Chargers were interested in taking Carson Wentz with the No. 3 overall pick, but of course the Eagles snapped him up at No. 2. That has worked out incredibly well for Philadelphia, but the Chargers also struck gold at No. 3 with Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa, who was last season’s NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year despite playing only 12 games. Bosa is off to a good start in 2017 with 17 tackles and two sacks. It will be interesting to see Bosa and Wentz meet in the backfield a few times. The Eagles enter off a very unlikely 27-24 win over the Giants on Jake Elliott’s 61-yard field goal as time expired – the longest game-winner by a rookie ever and a franchise record overall. Wentz promised Elliott his game check beforehand. Will Wentz pay up? The Chargers lost 24-10 at home to Kansas City in Week 3.

  • Chargers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a double-digit loss at home.
  • Eagles are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 road games.

I’m presuming Rivers will have a bounce-back game after completing just 50 percent of his passes vs. the Chiefs with no touchdowns and three interceptions. L.A. running back Melvin Gordon is dealing with a bruised knee but expected to play – if he wasn’t, I’d be picking the Eagles and the under here. Philly lost one of the best third-down backs in the NFL last week to a season-ending injury in Darren Sproles. Expect to a see an increased role for second-year back Wendell Smallwood. If the 34-year-old Sproles -- who tore his ACL and broke his hand on the same play Sunday -- never plays another down, he'll finish in eighth place on the all-time all-purpose yards list.

  • Over is 12-2 in Eagles last 14 road games.
  • Over is 12-5 in Chargers last 17 games after scoring less than 15 points in their previous game.
