It appears that it will be a very long season for the two New York City teams (yes, I know they play in  New Jersey). The Jets look for their first win against the Fins in an AFC East matchup.

Miami Dolphins at New York Jets (+6, 41.5)

Could the Jets go winless? No question they are that bad, although history tends to say it won't happen. If they do get a win, it surely will be at home. It's not impossible this week, I suppose. Nah. Survivor Pick: Miami.

My only worry here for Miami is all the travel the team has had to deal with in the wake of Hurricane Irma. They spent last week in California ahead of beating the Chargers, 19-17, in Jay Cutler's Miami debut. The Dolphins were lucky to win as the Chargers' rookie kicker missed the winning 44-yard field goal with five seconds left. Cutler was 24-for-33 for 230 yards, a TD, no picks and a rating of 101.8. Miami fans will take that type of game every single week -- so would plenty of Bears fans I know back when Cutler was there. It's the Jets' home opener, and they were at least moderately competitive for a while in losses in Buffalo and Oakland. But the talent just isn't there. Miami swept New York last year, although neither starting QB Sunday played in those games.

  • Favorite is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings.
  • Jets are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games in September.

Some thought the Jets might have the worst offense since the expansion Tampa Bay Bucs of the 1970s. Gang Green isn't lighting it up at 16.0 points per game, but that's better than the Seahawks, Texans and Bengals -- and the Giants. Expect Miami to run a very conservative offense all season and hit plenty of unders. Coach Adam Gase will simply ask Cutler to not make the big mistake and feed running back Jay Ajayi as much as possible. Think Chiefs.

  • Under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings in New York.
  • Under is 4-1 in Jets last 5 vs. AFC East.
