If you like high-scoring, entertaining football then this Thursday's Rams-49ers matchup probably isn't for you -- especially if you have seen San Francisco's offense at all in 2017.

Los Angeles Rams at San Francisco 49ers (+2.5, 40.5)

Usually teams playing at home have a big advantage in Thursday night games. Not so far this year as both have lost. I believe that changes this week as the Niners have to win at least once. Right? Survivor Pick: San Francisco.

If not for the Rams, the 49ers might have made the wrong kind of history last year as San Francisco's only two wins were against their neighbors to the south. The teams played an incredibly ugly Week 1 game at Levi's Stadium, won 28-0 by San Francisco. That set back "Monday Night Football" by about 10 years. Your QBs that night were the unforgettable duo of Case Keenum for the Rams and Blaine Gabbert for the Niners. Things should be slightly better this time around with Jared Goff improving in Year 2 for Los Angeles. It's now Brian Hoyer for the Niners, and since I'm a glass half-full guy I'll just not say anything about him yet. Actually, in their past 22 games the Niners are 3-0 vs. the Rams and 0-19 vs. everyone else. So I love they are getting points here as I think they win straight up. It's really hard for a team to go winless at home and this looks to be San Francisco's best chance at a W there (maybe Week 16 vs. Jacksonville).

  • Rams are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 meetings in San Francisco.
  • Rams are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 meetings.

The total is awfully low, but I don't see how you can possibly go over considering the 49ers have only four field goals in two games. They have had 21 offensive possessions with just 24 first downs, 11 punts and three turnovers. Hoyer should already be benched with a rating of 60.7, two picks and an average yards per attempt of just 4.71. The Rams' defense is pretty good even though it was gashed on the ground last week by Washington. Pro Bowl tackle Aaron Donald should be much better conditioning-wise with a game under his belt after holding out all camp and missing Week 1. Meanwhile, the San Francisco defense has played quite respectably in allowing just 35 points.

  • Under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in San Francisco.
  • Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
