The Chargers still have a shot at the playoffs in their first season in Los Angeles against a Raiders club that’s perhaps the most disappointing in the AFC this year. Survivor Pick: LA Chargers.

Oakland Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers (-7, 47)

It would be pretty impressive for the Bolts to make the playoffs after starting 0-4 (which they’ve done once before). They must win this game, first off. They also need the Jacksonville Jaguars to beat the Tennessee Titans and the Baltimore Ravens to beat the Cincinnati Bengals. I don’t happen to think the Jaguars win in Nashville considering Jacksonville has nothing to play for. If the Ravens lose to Cincinnati, which is very unlikely, the Chargers still get in if the Buffalo Bills lose to the Miami Dolphins in addition to Tennessee losing. The Bolts won for the fifth time in six games Sunday, 14-7 at the Jets. Philip Rivers threw for 290 yards and a touchdown to Antonio Gates – maybe the last one of Gates’ Hall of Fame career. Melvin Gordon also ran for a score. He left late in the game with an ankle injury so monitor Gordon’s status this week. Oakland was eliminated from playoff contention before it took the field Monday night in Philadelphia. The Raiders defense played great but the offense not so much in 19-10 loss, the team’s third straight defeat. Now you hear rumors Coach Jack Del Rio could be in trouble despite just getting a four-year contract extension after last season. The Raiders have regressed in a huge way from last year’s 12-win team. This one’s all about motivation. Chargers have it, Raiders don’t and are on a short week.

  • Raiders are 3-8-2 ATS in their last 13 games overall.
  • Chargers are 15-7 ATS in their last 22 games after scoring less than 15 points in their previous game.

What the heck has gone wrong with Derek Carr this year? He looked terrible on Monday night. In the second half he was just 1-for-6 passing with two interceptions on passes thrown more than five yards downfield. Overall in the second half, Carr threw for 22 yards on 17 attempts, his fewest yards ever in a second half with a minimum of five attempts. He had a passer rating of 126.4 at halftime and finished with a career-low 48.1. Carr’s interception with under a minute left led to Philly’s game-winning field goal. He now has 21 career games with 25 or more passing attempts but less than 200 yards passing, the most in franchise history. Carr largely hasn’t been the same since missing a game with a back injury earlier in the year. The Raiders lost to the Chargers 17-16 on Oct. 15. Nick Novak kicked a 32-yard field goal on the final play of the game; he’s now on injured reserve. It was a missed extra point by Giorgio Tavecchio -- after a high snap by Jon Condo early in the fourth quarter -- that proved to be the difference. Carr threw for just 171 yards with two interceptions and a touchdown. Rivers went 25 for 36 for 268 yards with one touchdown.

  • Under is 6-0 in Raiders last 6 games overall.
  • Under is 9-1 in Chargers last 10 vs. AFC.
