Sure, we all expected when the NFL schedule was released on April 20 that a Jaguars-Titans matchup would be one of the most important games of Week 17. Survivor Pick: Tennessee.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans (-5, 41)

This game was flexed from 1 p.m. ET to 4:25 p.m. along with a few other AFC games that have playoff ramifications. This is all about the Titans as Jacksonville is locked into the third seed in the conference as the AFC South champion – the team’s first division title since 1999 and first playoff berth since 2007. Tennessee is looking for its first playoff spot since 2008 but has picked a bad time to go on a three-game losing streak. It was Tennessee's blowout loss to Jacksonville late last season that took the Titans out of the 2016 playoff picture and helped convince the Jaguars to promote coach Doug Marrone to the full-time position. The Titans are a wild-card team with a victory and would turn around and play Jacksonville again next week in Florida with a victory and Ravens victory over Cincinnati (which should happen). Tennessee also would get in with a loss if the L.A. Chargers win at home over Oakland, which has no reason to care, and if Buffalo loses at Miami, which also has nothing to play for. I believe Titans coach Mike Mularkey will be fired if his team loses this game and gags away what looked like a sure playoff spot when his team was 8-4 and battling for the division title. I don’t know why Jacksonville would play many of its starters much if at all here.

  • Titans are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 home games.
  • Favorite is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings.

The Titans will be without No. 1 running back DeMarco Murray for this game. He sprained his LCL in the Week 16 home loss to the Rams. Murray is the team’s second-leading rusher with 184 carries for 659 yards and six touchdowns on the season. The team has an excellent No. 2 – if you can even call him that – in former Heisman winner Derrick Henry. He is averaging 4.7 yards per carry this season compared to Murray’s 3.6. David Fluellen should slide in as the No. 2. The Titans need to shake Marcus Mariota out of his doldrums as he threw another pick last week – he now has 15 of them to just 12 TD passes – and took an unacceptable fourth-down sack to clinch the loss. It was on Christmas Eve in Jacksonville last season that Mariota broke his right leg. In Week 2 this year, the Titans crushed the Jags 37-16. Henry, Delanie Walker and Jalston Fowler each ran for touchdowns. Mariota completed 15 of 27 passes for 215 yards with a 32-yard touchdown pass to Jonnu Smith. Blake Bortles threw two interceptions, including one on a ball tipped at the line, and fumbled once. Leonard Fournette finished with 40 yards and a TD on 14 carries. I’ll be stunned if Fournette plays here as he’s been nicked up most of the season.

  • Under is 6-1 in Jaguars last 7 vs. AFC.
  • Under is 6-1 in Titans last 7 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
