This game means plenty to Minnesota but absolutely nothing to Green Bay, and thus Packers fans won’t get to see Aaron Rodgers the rest of the year. Survivor Pick: Minnesota.

Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers (+9, 40.5)

This spread on this game was interesting. The oddsmakers didn’t post a line until after Monday night’s Falcons at Bucs game. Why? An Atlanta win eliminated Green Bay from playoff contention. The Falcons did win, 24-21, as Tampa Bay missed a late tying field goal. Thus, many expected that the Packers would not play Aaron Rodgers the rest of the season coming off his broken collarbone that was only about 80 percent healed. Rodgers threw for three touchdowns in last week’s 31-24 loss in Carolina but also an uncharacteristic three picks. He looked rusty, was hit a lot and admitted he wasn’t 100 percent. Early Tuesday afternoon, a few books listed a line of Vikings -1.5. Then, however, the Packers announced they had placed Rodgers on season-ending injured reserve. Then that line jumped up as high as 10 at some books. The last time the Packers missed the playoffs was in 2008 when Rodgers was in his first year as the team’s starting quarterback. Brett Hundley will get the start in Saturday's home finale. Joe Callahan was re-added to the 53-man roster as his backup. The Vikings are NFC North champions but still are playing for a first-round bye. They’ll win this game, but I’m not giving them that many points.

  • Vikings are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games.
  • Packers are 1-5 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

Minnesota blew out the Bengals 34-7 last week for its ninth win in the past 10 games. The Vikings will clinch a first-round bye with a win over the Packers combined with a Panthers loss/tie, or a tie combined with a Panthers loss, Saints loss/tie and a Rams loss/tie. They can only get the NFC’s top seed if they win out and the Eagles lose out. So unlikely. It was Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr who broke Rodgers’ right collarbone in Minnesota’s 23-10 home win in Week 6. That came on Green Bay’s second drive. Hundley would relieve and throw three picks with the Packers managing just 227 yards. If there was ever any question of whether Rodgers would play, the weather forecast for Green Bay on Saturday night likely clinched it. The low is projected for minus-4. Rodgers, incidentally, is 12-7 in his career against Minnesota with 39 touchdown passes and just six interceptions so the Vikings are surely thrilled to see Hundley. Green Bay also might be without top WR Davante Adams, who is in the concussion protocol. This is going to be really low-scoring!

  • Under is 16-5 in Vikings last 21 vs. NFC North.
  • Under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.
