This should be a ratings extravaganza because there may not be two more popular franchises in the NFL than the Cowboys and Raiders. Survivor Pick: Oakland.

Dallas Cowboys at Oakland Raiders (+3, 46.5)

The NBC executives had to be wetting themselves when they were given this game when the NFL schedule was released back in April. The Cowboys and Raiders are two of the marquee brands of the league by far – maybe the two most popular teams worldwide because of their iconic logos and nicknames. Neither has played as well as it did last season, though, when Dallas won the NFC East with 13 victories and Oakland was a wild-card team with 12. Both are in danger of missing the playoffs in 2017 and the loser Sunday night almost surely will. Dallas (7-6) is sitting 10th in the NFC and can’t win the East because the Eagles already have clinched. The Cowboys close home to Seattle and at Philly. The good news is Ezekiel Elliott will be back starting next Sunday from his six-game suspension. Plus, the Eagles might have nothing to play for in Week 17 so Dallas could be in good shape for a wild-card spot with a win here. Oakland (6-7) is game behind the Chiefs and Chargers in the AFC West, although one of those teams is guaranteed to lose Saturday night in K.C. (barring a tie). The Raiders sit ninth overall in the AFC. They close at Philadelphia and at the Chargers, which is rough. The Cowboys haven’t won in Oakland since 1995 and I don’t think they will here, either.

  • Cowboys are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games in December.
  • Raiders are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game.

The Cowboys have followed a three-game losing streak with back-to-back blowout wins, albeit over bad NFC East teams in the Redskins and Giants. Coach Jason Garrett is hoping to get back two key defensive players from injury this week in tackle David Irving (concussion) and cornerback Orlando Scandrick (broken bones in his back). The Raiders’ two-game winning streak was snapped last Sunday in a 26-15 loss that really wasn’t that close (26-0 at one point). Derek Carr had one of his worst games of the season and hasn’t played well much this year. Pressure seems to rattle him. In 2016, Carr completed 47 percent of his passes and had a 6.3 yards-per-attempt average, four touchdown passes and four interceptions and was sacked 16 times when under pressure. In 2017, Carr has completed 44 percent of his passes and has a 5.3 yards-per-attempt average with one TD and 3 INTs and has been sacked 17 times. Top WR Amari Cooper also is having a down season with just 499 receiving yards on 42 catches. He’s playing through an ankle injury currently. This is Oakland’s final home game.

  • Under is 5-1 in Cowboys last 6 games overall.
  • Under is 4-1 in Raiders last 5 home games.
