These NFC North rivals split their season series in 2016, each winning at home. The Bears need a road win to get a split in 2017. Survivor Pick: Detroit.

Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions (-6, 43.5)

We are at that time of season where the NFL stages a couple of Saturday games for a few weeks with college football’s regular season having been completed. The first of two Saturday matchups this week is an NFC North game between the Bears and Lions. Chicago has nothing to play for other than to keep getting rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky as much experience as possible. It actually would benefit the Bears to lose out as that likely would get them a Top-5 pick in the 2018 draft. Chicago (4-9) right now would pick seventh. Detroit (7-6) is still in the wild-card race and hasn’t technically been eliminated from the division race yet. The Lions currently sit eighth in the NFC standings but first among the three 7-6 teams (also Green Bay and Dallas). Detroit finishes at Cincinnati and home to Green Bay. The Lions go for the season sweep here as they won in Chicago 27-24 in Week 11. Matt Prater kicked a 52-yard field goal with 1:35 remaining, and Matthew Stafford threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns. Chicago had a chance to tie in the closing seconds but Connor Barth wasn’t close on a 46-yarder. He was released the next day.

  • Bears are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games following a straight up win.
  • Lions are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.

The Bears ended a five-game losing streak in Week 14 with a 33-7 blowout victory in Cincinnati, arguably the best game the team has played under embattled coach John Fox – it won’t be enough to save him after the season, however. Trubisky did have his best game with 271 yards passing and a score while rushing for a touchdown. Jordan Howard ran for 147 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Howard became the first Bears player to have consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons in his first two years. The Bears had a season-high 482 yards of offense against a team that completely mailed it in. The Lions weren’t sure Stafford would play this past Sunday in Tampa due to a hand injury but he did and threw for 381 yards and a touchdown in a 24-21 win over the Bucs. Prater, who is Mr. Clutch, kicked the winning 46-yard field goal in the closing seconds. The Lions were far from perfect as they blew a 21-7 fourth-quarter lead and turned it over three times but forced five Bucs turnovers. Obviously no weather concerns for this one at Ford Field.

  • Over is 6-1 in Lions last 7 home games.
  • Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Detroit.
