Frankly, the loser here is better off as it improves draft position and the chance to get a franchise quarterback, which both teams badly need. Survivor Pick: Denver.

New York Jets at Denver Broncos (+1, 41)

The Jets are really blowing their rebuilding plan. Just about everyone expected them to win maybe 2-3 games this season and contend for a No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2018 draft to land a franchise quarterback like Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen. Yet the Jets are 5-7 and playing hard for Coach Todd Bowles, who might actually keep his job in a minor miracle. Hey, at least the Jets are less of a mess than the Giants! Gang Green upset visiting Kansas City 38-31 in Week 13 to end a two-game slide. Josh McCown scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak with 2:15 left. Chandler Catanzaro kicked a 21-yard field goal to put the Jets ahead with 3:55 left. But Kansas City's Bennie Logan was called for a personal foul for hitting long snapper Thomas Hennessy on the play. That gave the Jets the ball at the 1 and first down. The Broncos are shockingly terrible, on an eight-game losing streak following a 35-9 blowout loss in Miami on Sunday. Miami scored two safeties in a game for the first time in franchise history and held Denver to 1-for-13 on third-down conversions. John Elway has a lot of work to do this offseason, starting at quarterback. I still like the Broncos at home and with their superior defense.

  • Jets are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 road games.
  • Jets are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

The Jets deserved to beat the Chiefs as New York converted 13 of 20 third downs, controlled the clock for 42:49 and didn't allow a sack while making Kansas City’s best pass-rusher an afterthought by holding Justin Houston without a tackle. McCown finished with 331 yards passing and a touchdown to Matt Forte, and ran for two scores -- including the winner. McCown, 38, became the oldest player to have two rushing touchdowns in a game since Doug Flutie did it for the San Diego Chargers in 2003. Flutie was 41. Jermaine Kearse had nine catches for 157 yards and Robby Anderson caught eight passes for 107 yards. I’m presuming Trevor Siemian will stay at QB this week for Denver even though he went 20 for 42 for 219 yards with three interceptions vs. Miami. It’s not just the offense that’s a problem for the Broncos. Their special teams are broken too. They have had two punts blocked in the past four games and fumbled a punt into the end zone for a safety against the Fins. Denver is now 0-6 in games they’ve trailed after the first quarter, 0-8 in games they’ve trailed at halftime.

  • Under is 5-2 in Jets last 7 road games.
  • Under is 5-1 in Broncos last 6 vs. a team with a losing record.
