If the Bills have any shot of ending the longest playoff drought in the NFL, they have no excuse to lose this game at home against a bad Colts side. Survivor Pick: Buffalo.

Indianapolis Colts at Buffalo Bills (TBA)

Well, I held off as late as I could this week to preview this game between the Colts and Bills, but we have to get the information out there despite no line being posted yet. That’s because of the status of Buffalo quarterback Tyrod Taylor. In last Sunday’s 23-3 loss to New England, Taylor was carted off with what looked like a potentially serious knee injury. Thankfully for him, it was just a bruised patellar tendon in his left knee. Actually, Taylor was hurt on his team’s first offensive play but struggled through it until he was carted off in the fourth quarter. Taylor was replaced by rookie Nathan Peterman with about 13 minutes remaining. Peterman completed six of 15 passes for 50 yards. Coach Sean McDermott will only say that Taylor is day-to-day. If the Bills have to start Peterman, that could be an issue considering in his only other start, Week 11 at the Chargers, he was historically bad in throwing five first-half interceptions before being pulled for Taylor. The Bills were crushed that day 54-24. I think Taylor will try to gut it out here because the Bills are still very much in the wild-card hunt as they try to end the NFL’s longest playoff drought. Buffalo hosted Indianapolis in their last matchup on Sept. 13, 2015, and defeated the Colts, 27-14.

  • Colts are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games.
  • Home team is 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

There is other injury news for the Bills, both good and bad. Receiver Kelvin Benjamin, who has barely played due to injury since being acquired from Carolina at the trade deadline, should return this week. That trade is looking like a disaster so far. Also back this week should be running back Mike Tolbert, who has missed the past three games with a hamstring injury. However, WR Jordan Matthews and linebacker Shaq Lawson have both landed on season-ending IR. Matthews was a big offseason trade acquisition from Philly and has been a bust. Indy is just playing out the string under lame-duck Coach Chuck Pagano with the Colts on a three-game skid and not scoring more than 17 points in any of those. They lost two defensive starters to IR this week in cornerback Pierre Desir and linebacker John Simon. This total will be quite low, Taylor or not. Go under regardless. We could be talking something like a 10-3 Bills win if it’s Peterman.

  • Under is 4-0 in Colts last 4 games overall.
  • Under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.
