These teams have been so disappointing that this game was flexed out of a late-afternoon slot – and the Cowboys are never flexed in a negative way. Survivor Pick: Dallas.

Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants (+5.5, 41.5)

There was no chance that the Giants were going to bring back Coach Ben McAdoo or GM Jerry Reese next season with the implosion of the franchise from an 11-win team in 2016 to just two victories this year. But why wait until the season ended?! Apparently, the last straw for ownership was McAdoo benching franchise icon Eli Manning, ending his streak of 210 straight starts, for Sunday’s loss in Oakland. On Monday, McAdoo and Reese were both shown the door. McAdoo is the first coach fired in the NFL this season, the first Giants coach to last two seasons or fewer since 1991 (Ray Handley) and the first fired in-season since Bill Arnsparger in 1976. McAdoo’s tenure lasted only 28 games, the shortest stay for a Giants head coach in 89 years. He was formerly the team’s offensive coordinator, but in his two seasons as head coach, the Giants offense ranked in the bottom five in the league in points, yards and third-down conversion percentage. Expect the Giants to pursue Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels heavily for the top job this offseason. You might hear Nick Saban’s name, but that’s wishful thinking. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will take over as interim coach. Manning will return to the starting lineup for this one as well. There simply was no point to keep putting Geno Smith out there. Smith lost two fumbles in the 24-17 Raiders loss. This game is all about motivation. The Cowboys still have plenty and the Giants less than zero.

  • Cowboys are 6-2 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
  • Giants are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win.

It’s possible the Cowboys could have their own coach opening if they miss the playoffs, although Jerry Jones says Jason Garrett is safe. It’s not Garrett’s fault that superstar running back Ezekiel Elliott was suspended six games. This is game No. 5 of that. The Cowboys salvaged their wild-card hopes last Thursday with a 38-14 win over the visiting Redskins – those 38 points were 16 more than Dallas totaled in the first three games Elliott missed, all double-digit losses. Alfred Morris looked Elliott-like in rushing for 127 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries against his former team. Dak Prescott threw for only 102 yards but two scores. The Cowboys go for the season sweep of the Giants. Dallas won an ugly game in Week 1, 19-3. Elliott rushed for 104 yards and caught five balls for 36 yards. New York had just 13 first downs and 233 yards. Manning threw for 220 and a pick.

  • Under is 16-6 in Cowboys last 22 road games.
  • Under is 7-2 in Giants last 9 home games.
