It’s the most important game of Week 13 … NOT! The only thing on the line here is potentially better 2018 draft position for the loser. Survivor Pick: Chicago.

San Francisco 49ers at Chicago Bears (-3.5, 39.5)

These teams met in another crappy last-season game last year in Chicago, with the Bears winning 26-6 in Week 13. Jordan Howard rushed for three scores and 117 yards for Chicago, which was quarterbacked by long-gone Matt Barkley. The Niners managed just six passing yards behind their QBs Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick, both also long gone. The Bears have yet to win in six tries when favored under Coach John Fox, who clearly will be fired after the season. If the 2018 NFL Draft was held today, the 49ers would pick second and the Bears seventh. Of course in the 2017 draft, the Bears moved up from No. 3 to No. 2 and gave San Francisco a handful of draft picks to do so and take North Carolina QB Mitchell Trubisky. The Niners weren’t going to take him and now get to see him up close. Presumably, this will be the San Francisco starting QB debut of Jimmy Garoppolo. Of course, he was acquired around Halloween from the Patriots for a 2018 second-round pick. Many, many Bears fans wanted to get Jimmy G during the draft because he’s from Eastern Illinois and the Chicago area.

  • 49ers are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games in December.
  • Bears are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 home games.

Chicago lost its fourth straight game Sunday, 31-3 at Philadelphia in what was truly a mismatch in every possible way. The Bears had zero first downs in the first half and 140 total yards. They had six (six!) yards rushing. That was the second fewest in franchise history and fewest by any team since the Colts rushed for 1 yard in December 2014. The Bears entered Week 12 ranked fifth in the NFL with 131.8 rushing yards per game. Trubisky took a step backward by completing 17 of 33 for 147 yards and two picks. He just has no receiving help whatsoever. San Francisco came out of its bye week and lost 24-13 at home to Seattle. Garoppolo made his 49ers debut with 1:07 remaining after starting quarterback C.J. Beathard went down on a hit by Michael Bennett as he threw a pass. Jimmy G hit Louis Murphy for a 10-yard TD pass as time expired. There’s simply no reason for the Niners to wait any longer on Garoppolo – he has to start here even if Beathard is healthy. He probably isn’t as Seattle hit Beathard 14 times, including three sacks, and he took a couple more on designed runs and scrambles.

  • Under is 10-2 in 49ers last 12 games following a double-digit loss at home.
  • Under is 8-3 in Bears last 11 games following a ATS loss.
