The NFL works in mysterious ways as the Giants and Raiders combined for 23 wins last year and both made the playoffs. Neither is the same in 2017. Survivor Pick: Oakland.

New York Giants at Oakland Raiders (-7, 42.5)

How bad are the Giants and how bad has likely future Hall of Famer Eli Manning been this season? In a stunning development, Manning has been benched for this game and it only moved the line a half-point. Manning had made 210 consecutive straight starts dating to his rookie year in 2004, which was the second-longest streak ever for a quarterback behind Brett Favre. Eli had just passed brother Peyton. In an incredibly classy move, Eli was given the opportunity to start in Oakland but then be pulled so the team could at least see if Geno Smith and/or rookie third-round Davis Webb offers anything for the future. Manning declined. You have to respect that, although I wonder if he ever starts another game for the Giants. "My feeling is that if you are going to play the other guys, play them,” he said. “Starting just to keep the streak going and knowing you won't finish the game and have a chance to win it is pointless to me, and it tarnishes the streak. Like I always have, I will be ready to play if and when I am needed. I will help Geno and Davis prepare to play as well as they possibly can." In all honesty, this doesn’t change my position on this game whatsoever. The Raiders have everything to play for and the Giants nothing – the more losses the better for New York’s draft position. But in case public money starts rolling in on Oakland, buy this down to 6.5 before it gets too expensive.

  • Giants are 0-4 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
  • Raiders are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.

Uh, how can you not love the under here? Even with Manning, the Giants are 31st in the NFL in scoring, averaging 15.6 points per game. The 36-year-old has completed 62.5 percent of his passes this season and thrown 14 touchdown passes with seven interceptions. His rating of 84.1 is 24th in the league. Obviously, Manning wasn’t helped by a terrible running game, a porous offensive line and injured receivers. Smith has never shown much from his Jets days, while Webb is a project coming out of a pass-happy Cal system. Both sound likely to play, but Smith will start. Meanwhile, Oakland will be without a key offensive piece in receiver Michael Crabtree after he was suspended two games for his silliness last Sunday with Denver’s Aqib Talib, who also got two games. Crabtree is tied for first on the team with 42 catches, solo first with six TDs and second with 502 yards. Over the last two seasons, Derek Carr has QBR of 99 when targeting Crabtree in the red zone. That rating is 25 when targeting anyone else. So, yeah, under.

  • Under is 7-2 in Giants last 9 games after scoring less than 15 points in their previous game.
  • Under is 8-3 in Giants last 11 games following a ATS loss.
