History will be made on Thanksgiving night as the Redskins host the NFC East rival Giants to close out a trifecta of Turkey Day football. Survivor Pick: Washington.

New York Giants at Washington Redskins (-7, 44)

If you lived in the Pacific Time Zone, you got the short stick in terms of Thanksgiving NFL for many years because there were only two games, with the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys as hosts, and the holiday football action was finished by around 4:30 Pacific time. Other owners wanted to be able to host a national showcase like this. So for that reason and to help pimp the NFL Network, the league added a prime-time Thanksgiving game in 2006 on the NFL Network. It rotates around the league and is now shown on NBC. This Thursday for the first time in franchise history, the Redskins will host a Thanksgiving game. It’s the franchise’s 10th appearance on Thanksgiving, including last year’s 31-26 loss to the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. The Redskins haven’t played on Thanksgiving in consecutive seasons since 1973 and 1974 against the Lions and Cowboys. Washington is 2-7 on the holiday all-time, while New York is playing on Turkey Day for the first time in eight years (7-4-3 record on Thanksgiving). If we are being honest, this is the least interesting Thanksgiving game of the three with Washington at 4-6 and on the fringes of wild-card contention and New York at 2-9 and playing out the string.

  • Giants are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win.
  • Redskins are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games following a straight up loss.

These NFC East rivals split last year, each winning at home. New York’s 19-10 victory in Maryland was an absolute stunner because the Giants already were locked into their wild-card playoff seeding and thus had no reason to play its starters. Yet many did play, including Eli Manning. All Washington had to do as a 9-point favorite was win or tie and it would have grabbed the other playoff spot. However, Kirk Cousins had a crushing late interception while driving for a potential trying field-goal attempt while down 13-10. New York added a meaningless defensive TD on the final play of the game. The G-Men took some pressure off embattled coach Ben McAdoo for one week thanks to Sunday’s 12-9 overtime upset of the Chiefs as 10-point underdogs. The Giants picked off three passes in easily their best defensive game of the year. The Redskins should be 5-5 but absolutely gagged away a win in New Orleans, blowing a 31-16 lead with less than three minutes left and losing in overtime. Washington also lost excellent pass-catching running back Chris Thompson to a broken leg.

  • Over is 9-2 in Redskins last 11 vs. NFC East.
  • Over is 4-0 in Giants last 4 Thursday games.
