The game of the day in the NFL is without question this matchup between the Saints and Rams – who saw that coming back in August? Survivor Pick: LA Rams.

New Orleans Saints at Los Angeles Rams (-2.5, 53.5)

These teams combined for 11 victories last year, with each finishing third in their respective division. Now they have 15 wins with New Orleans (8-2) on an eight-game winning streak and atop the NFC South, and the Rams (7-3) leading Seattle by one game in the NFC West. So this obviously could have big playoff ramifications – as things stood entering Week 12, the Saints were the NFC’s third seed and the Rams the fourth. Not sure I’ve seen in years a club steal a win from certain defeat like the Saints did last Sunday against Washington as New Orleans was down 31-16 with under three minutes left only to win 34-31 in overtime. Absolutely stunning and it was the greatest fourth-quarter comeback in franchise history. New Orleans became the first team to win a game after trailing by at least 15 points in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter since 2011 (Denver vs. Miami, October 23, 2011). The Saints also became the first team in the Super Bowl era to win its next eight games immediately following an 0-2 start. The Rams, meanwhile, had their four-game winning streak snapped in a 24-7 loss at Minnesota. No shame losing to the Vikings. That the Rams are giving less than a field goal is why I’ll be taking them at home.

  • Saints are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 12.
  • Home team is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

This teams met last year when the Saints were still a pass-heavy team and the Rams the worst offensive team in the NFL, and New Orleans won 49-21 at home. Brees threw for 310 yards and four scores, while Mark Ingram rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Ingram, who has 1,019 scrimmage yards and eight touchdowns this season, and rookie Alvin Kamara, who has 906 scrimmage yards and seven TDs, are the only running back duo in the Super Bowl era to each have at least 900 scrimmage yards and seven TDs through their team’s first 10 games of a season. Yep, these aren’t the pass-happy Saints any longer. The Rams rank second in the NFL averaging 30.3 points per game.  Todd Gurley leads the NFL with 1,216 scrimmage yards and 11 touchdowns. L.A. will be missing leading receiver Robert Woods for a couple of weeks, though, as he’s dealing with a shoulder injury. That’s important, but I still like L.A. on the side and the over.

  • Over is 5-2 in Saints last 7 road games.
  • Over is 5-0 in Rams last 5 games following a straight up loss.
