You might be taking a turkey nap by the time this game starts, but as per tradition the Cowboys host the mid-afternoon Thanksgiving game … this time against an unfamiliar opponent. Survivor Pick: Dallas.

Los Angeles Chargers at Dallas Cowboys (Pick’em, 48)

It marks the Chargers’ first time playing on Thanksgiving since 1969 before the NFL-AFL merger. The Cowboys haven't played an AFC team on the holiday since 2013 when they beat the Raiders, 31-24; and this will be just the 11th meeting between the two teams. The last time the Cowboys and Chargers met was in 2013 and the Dallas quarterback then was Tony Romo. He’ll be in the CBS broadcast booth for this one. Unfortunately, we won’t get to see the reigning NFL Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year face off. The former award was win by Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, but he’ll be serving Game No. 3 of his six-game suspension. The Cowboys have been blown out the past two weeks without Zeke. Bolts end Joey Bosa won the defensive award last year despite playing in just 12 games. He’s having another fantastic season with 43 tackles and 10.5 sacks – matching his total as a rookie in two fewer games already. Don’t rule out the surging Chargers winning the AFC West. They are now just two games behind slumping Kansas City. I’m only taking Dallas here because it’s home in the short turnaround.

  • Chargers are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games following a straight up win.
  • Cowboys are 5-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.

Starting in Week 3 against the Cardinals, the Cowboys scored at least 28 points in six straight games. Elliott was a big part of that. Alas, in back-to-back losses to the Falcons and Eagles without Elliott, the Cowboys have managed just 16 total points. Dak Prescott didn’t look good at all Sunday night vs. the Eagles in throwing for only 146 yards and three picks. He has really missed Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith the past two games as well, but Smith is hopeful to return here. He will be needed against Bosa and Co. The Chargers destroyed the visiting Bills 54-24 on Sunday, their most points scored in several years. They had 37 at halftime thanks to five interceptions; that’s the most points the Bolts have scored in any first half ever. Keenan Allen blew up in the game with 12 receptions for 159 yards and two touchdowns on 13 targets. It was Allen’s first career game with at least 150 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns, and he became the first Charger since Vince Jackson in 2011 to accomplish that. Philip Rivers threw for 251 yards and two touchdowns after starting last week in the NFL’s concussion protocol.

  • Under is 6-2 in Chargers last 8 road games.
  • Under is 8-2 in Cowboys last 10 games following a double-digit loss at home.
