If the Lions have any hope at the playoffs, this is the type of game they have to win against a last-place team starting a rookie quarterback. Survivor Pick: Detroit.

Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears (+3, 42.5)

The Lions have followed a three-game losing streak with back-to-back wins. It was 38-24 on Sunday vs. Cleveland, although Detroit didn’t play well for about 2.5 quarters. Cleveland actually got its first double-digit lead of the entire season. Matthew Stafford bounced back from a slow start to connect on 17 of 26 passes for 249 with three TD passes in the second half. He hit tight end Eric Ebron on the game-winning score with 10:46 left in the fourth. It was Stafford’s 30th career game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime. Among players who made their NFL debut since 1970, Stafford has reached 30 such game-winning drives in the fewest number of career games (118). The previous mark was held by Atlanta’s Matt Ryan, a friend of Stafford’s. The Bears were favored over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday for the first time in nine years. Alas, Chicago remained winless as a favorite under Coach John Fox in a 23-16 loss. Fox had the worst challenge call in perhaps NFL history, turning what should have been a first-and-goal at the Green Bay 2 into a touchback and Packers possession. How does Fox still have a job?

These teams split low-scoring games last year, with each club winning by 3 points. It was a 17-14 Bears win at home. Brian Hoyer had a big night with 302 yards and two scores. Stafford was 23 of 36 for 213 yards and was intercepted twice deep in Bears territory. In Detroit, the Lions won 20-17 in Week 14 but that was very costly as Stafford injured a finger on his throwing hand and wasn’t the same the rest of the season – Detroit wouldn’t win again, including a playoff loss in Seattle. Stafford ran for a go-ahead, 7-yard touchdown with 3:17 left after throwing two interceptions in the fourth quarter against the Bears. Matt Barkley was the Chicago QB that day. The Bears’ Mitchell Trubisky comes off his best game, throwing for a career-high 297 yards in the loss to Green Bay. He hit Josh Bellamy for a 46-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Sunday's outing almost doubled Trubisky's previous season high in yardage of 164. Trade acquisition Dontrelle Inman, formerly of the Chargers, had six catches for 88 yards in his first game as a Bear.
