The UNDER went 12-4 during Week 1 of the 2014 NFL preseason. This year's totals have adjusted downward, but will that be enough to affect our Friday football picks?
People associate preseason football with low scores, and rightfully so. But they used to overcompensate with their NFL picks – at least until last year, when the UNDER went 41-24, including 12-4 during Week 1. Will things return to “normal” now that the totals have been lowered a shade for this week's exhibition games? Perhaps. Let's concentrate on the bigger picture for Friday's six-pack.
Tennessee at Atlanta (7:00 p.m. ET, NFLN)
Alas, while Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt is 9-19-1 ATS in preseason games, the OVER is a relatively neutral 15-14. And we have no body of work for Atlanta's rookie head coach, Dan Quinn. But we'll give the OVER a spin in the Georgia Dome, now that Tennessee has something resembling quarterback depth.

Carolina at Buffalo (7:00 p.m. ET)
We've already made our choice on this matchup, and it wasn't too difficult: Rex Ryan, Buffalo's new head coach, has the OVER at 17-7 in exhibition play. The Bills also have three QBs fighting over the starting gig, and a deeper talent pool of offensive players surrounding them. Hey, you can still get the total at 35 points on the NFL odds board as we go to press. Suh-weet.

Pittsburgh at Jacksonville (7:30 p.m. ET)
Well, this one's pretty easy. You've got a pair of defensive-minded head coaches in Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin (UNDER 20-12) and Jacksonville's Gus Bradley (UNDER 6-2). You've also got a Jaguars offense that couldn't find the end zone on a map. Jacksonville won't have RB T.J. Yeldon (sprained hand) or WR Marqise Lee (hamstring), either.
Free NFL Pick: Take UNDER 36.5 (–107) at Pinnacle
New York Giants at Cincinnati (7:30 p.m. ET)
Old school is as old school does. Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has the OVER at 46-32 lifetime in the preseason. Cincinnati's Marvin Lewis is more neutral at 25-23, but that won't deter us from pounding the OVER in this matchup.
Free NFL Pick: Take OVER 37 at Bovada
St. Louis at Oakland (10:00 p.m. ET)
Praise be, two more coaches who like to “score the football” during exhibition games. Oakland's Jack Del Rio has the OVER at 20-16, while St. Louis head coach Jeff Fisher is even better with the OVER at 41-31-1. We're looking forward to Del Rio's antics this year, but of course, you already knew that (wink).
Free NFL Pick: Take OVER 36 at YouWager
Denver at Seattle (10:00 p.m. ET, NFLN)
Did somebody say “score the football”? Great googly-moogly: Gary Kubiak had the OVER at 21-9-2 during his preseason tenure with the Houston Texans. And while Seattle's Pete Carroll isn't quite as prolific against the total as he is against the spread (25-11-1 ATS), the OVER is still on the profitable side at 20-17.
