If you believe the NFL futures at SBR’s top-rated sportsbooks, either the Philadelphia Eagles or Washington Redskins will finish last in the NFC East this season. Sunday’s loser will reside there temporarily, at least.

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins (+1, 47.5)

These NFC East rivals will be done facing each other already by the end of Week 7. Washington has had Philadelphia’s number of late, winning five straight in the series. Make it six. Survivor Pick: Redskins.

Will this be the final opener in a Redskins uniform for quarterback Kirk Cousins? It sure seems likely as the Redskins have either been unable or unwilling to work out a long-term extension with Cousins, who nearly threw for 5,000 yards in 2016, the past two offseasons. It would cost somewhere around $35 million were Washington to franchise Cousins again next winter. Many believe Cousins will go sign with San Francisco and play under 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, a former Redskins offensive coordinator. The Eagles have no such quarterback worries as they have their future in Carson Wentz, last year’s No. 2 overall pick. Wentz had his struggles in 2016 but also showed signs of stardom and he won over the locker room. The Redskins seek a sixth consecutive victory against Philadelphia for the first time since posting a six-game streak across the 1981-84 seasons. Washington is looking to snap a four-game losing streak in season openers. The team won three straight Week 1 contests from 2010-12 prior to this current skid.

  • Eagles are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games.
  • Redskins are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. NFC East.
  • Eagles are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Washington.

Including a 27-20 home win in Week 6 last season, the Redskins have won each of the teams’ past three meetings at FedExField. Cousins threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns in that home victory last year and the Redskins have 493 yards of offense. Philly was held to 239 total yards and had 13 penalties. Wentz looked like a rookie, going 11-for-22 for 179 yards, a rating of 77.7. The Redskins are seeking their first four-game home winning streak against Philadelphia since 1981-84 seasons. The Redskins are 17-13 in Week 1 home games since the merger. The Philly defense was very good at home in 2016 but not away from home. Cousins should have a big day. Washington’s defense isn’t anything special, either. Wentz could also have a big game with his new receiving duo of Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith.

  • Over is 11-1 in Eagles last 12 road games.
  • Over is 8-1 in Eagles last 9 vs. NFC East.
  • Over is 8-2 in Redskins last 10 home games.
  • Over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.
