It’s two of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL facing off Sunday when Oakland visits Tennessee in a matchup of what I believe will be playoff teams this season. Of course, the Raiders were one in 2016.

Oakland Raiders at Tennessee Titans (-1.5, 51.5)

West Coast teams playing games at 1 p.m. ET time as Oakland will do here rarely fare too well. Perhaps I’m overestimating Tennessee, but I believe the Titans win the AFC South this year. Survivor Pick: Titans

What do the Raiders and Titans have in common? Two of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL in Oakland’s Derek Carr and Tennessee’s Marcus Mariota. They also each happen to be coming off broken legs suffered late last season. Both have turned their franchises around as Carr led the Raiders to a 12-4 mark last year and their first trip to the playoffs since 2002. Oakland might have won the AFC West and been the conference’s No. 2 seed if Carr hadn’t broken his leg in Week 16 against Indianapolis. Mariota led the Titans to a 9-7 record, their best mark since 2011 after winning just fife total games the previous two seasons. They might have won the AFC South and made the playoffs if Mariota hadn’t broken his leg in Week 16 in Jacksonville. Both are healthy now. This will also be the debut of "Beast Mode" for Oakland with running back Marshawn Lynch out of retirement.

  • Raiders are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games.
  • Favorite is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings.
  • Titans are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games in Week 1.

These teams met in Nashville in Week 3 last year and Oakland prevailed 17-10. Carr threw for 249 yards and a touchdown. Mariota had one of his worst games of the season in completing 17 of 33 for 214 yards and two interceptions. The Titans turned it over three times overall and had a late offensive pass interference call that wiped out the potential tying touchdown. Tennessee did rush for 181 yards and will again be one of the most run-heavy clubs in the NFL with their duo of DeMarco Murray and Derrick Walker. Thus I’d tend to lean under most of their games as the Titans will chew clock with ball control. This should have a similar score to 2016.

  • Under is 4-1 in Titans last 5 vs. AFC.
  • Under is 7-3 in Titans last 10 games in Week 1.
