Our NFL handicapping professional previews Saturday’s game between Dallas and Los Angeles. Join us in reading this compelling betting article culminated with a NFL pick.

NFL Back to Los Angeles
The Cowboys and Rams will meet in what will be a preseason opener for both teams. The opening kickoff at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is slated for 8:00 PM ET, and it will be televised nationally by ESPN. A huge crowd is expected as the NFL makes a reappearance in Southern California for the first time since 1994. Despite this being just a preseason contest, the crowd emotion will be high, and certainly uncharacteristic for these otherwise meaningless games. Current NFL betting odds at Pinnacle has Los Angeles as a 4.5-point favorite, and there a posted total of 35.5.

The Rams tenure in St. Louis lasted 16 years, including two Super Bowl appearances and one world championship. Prior to the franchised moving to St. Louis, they were playing its home games in Anaheim. They’ll now do so at Memorial Coliseum until their new stadium is ready to open in 2018.

Head Coaches Preseason ATS History
Jason Garrett enters his sixth season as head coach of the Cowboys. Garrett’s preseason track record is far from impressive. As a matter of fact, Dallas has gone 1-8 SU&ATS during their previous nine preseason games. Furthermore, the Cowboys are also a futile 0-7 SU&ATS during its preceding seven preseason away games, and scored 7 points or less on four of those occasions. Garrett’s preseason record overall is an uninspiring 6-14 ATS.

Jeff Fisher has encountered a similar lack of ATS success through his first four years as head coach of the Rams, going an awful 5-11 ATS. As a matter of fact, since 2013, the Rams are a futile 2-10 ATS during preseason action, and that includes 1-7 SU&ATS throughout its past two campaigns.

Cowboys Concerns
I would be absolutely shocked if we see Tony Romo under center on Saturday night. Considering the Cowboys current quarterback situation, there’s a very good chance he’ll be held out of this insignificant contest. Dallas suffered a huge blow early in training camp when backup quarterback Kellen Moore went down with a broken ankle. The two remaining quarterbacks are rookie Dak Prescott (4th round/Mississippi State), and second year pro Jameill Showers (undrafted/UTEP).

Dallas is extremely thin at running back heading into their preseason opener. Their 2016 top draft choice Ezekiel Elliot won’t play while recovering from a hamstring injury. They’ll also be without Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar who both reside on the physically unable to perform list. That leaves former Washington Redskins veteran unrestricted free agent acquisition Alfred Morris, rookie Darius Jackson (6th round/Eastern Michigan), and second year fullback Rod Smith (undrafted/Ohio State) who’s had to fill in at tailback due to a lack of numbers at that position.

Rams Quality Depth
It’s unlikely will see the Rams starters for any more than two series on Saturday. However, with the exception of its offensive line, I really like the overall depth on this roster, and that’s certainly conducive to favorable preseason NFL picks results.

Case Keenum is currently penciled in as the Rams starting quarterback. Nevertheless, it’s just a matter of time before we’ll see 2016 first overall draft pick Jared Goff (California) under center. The most competitive quarterback competition in camp will be for the third string quarterback job between Sean Mannion (Oregon State) and Dylan Thompson (South Carolina) both are entering their second year. That will serve well for the chances of Los Angeles coming out on top against Dallas.

NFL Preseason Betting Angle
Any NFL team (Rams) playing in their first preseason game, and is a favorite of 4.0 or more, versus an opponent also playing its preseason opener, resulted in those favorites going 13-5 ATS (72.2%) since 2003. Additionally, Los Angeles will have a considerable emotional edge with all things being considered.
