These two teams are dealing with multiple injuries coming into Week 3, yet our NFL handicapper thinks the road team is a live dog as he makes his NFL pick for this week.

The San Diego Chargers got into the win column in Week 2 with a dominating home performance over Jacksonville, which continued a streak of 6 quarters of great football from the club. Even though they laid an egg in the first half of their Week 1 game against Kansas City, they have been great ever since. The victory was not without sacrifice, though, as running back, Danny Woodhead, was lost for the season with a knee injury. Woodhead was known as a third down back and was very important in this regard in pass protection. It looks like Ken Whisenhunt will be reunited with former Titan, Dexter McCluster, as Woodhead’s replacement on the team.

The Indianapolis Colts not only lost their game against the Denver Broncos due to giving up 2 defensive touchdowns, they also suffered several key injuries. Wide receiver, Donte Moncrief, cornerback, Darius Butler, and right guard Denzelle Good look to be very questionable and let’s just say the Indianapolis secondary is a mess with injuries right now. The Colts were on their 6th cornerback on the depth chart at one time on Sunday afternoon. Literally, 40% of the starting defense going into the year for the Colts could be out in Week 3. At 0-2 on the season for the 3rd year in a row they cannot afford to lose many more players or games, at this point.

Both of these teams have had their defensive struggles so far, with San Diego and Indianapolis giving up 400.5 and 424 yards per game, respectively. But Indianapolis has made it a habit of starting slowly in games as well on offense, averaging 8 points at the halftime before screaming back to average 27.5 points per game overall. They pile it all on Andrew Luck to bail them out, and he has definitely tried, but the defense and offensive line have sold them out in the first few weeks. Not too hard to do when you are on your 6th cornerback.

San Diego has historically had a great deal of success against Indianapolis on the road over the years and is 7-2 SU and 8-1 ATS against them since 1992. The odds haven’t reflected this yet, as the Chargers are still a 3-point underdog coming into this game. I’m taking the healthier team here, and even without Keenan Allen and Danny Woodhead, that is the Chargers. But with the challenges on defense for Indy, I think the O/U sitting at 52 has great value as well. I’m taking the Chargers at my favorite underdog site, Bovada, at +3, and the Over at 51.5 at Heritage as my picks for this Week 3 game.
