Seahawks & Patriots
The Seahawks are starting their playoff road with a team they have already beaten once this season, and even though this game should be better than the first time they met, it could also end up being a double-digit deficit by the end of the 4th quarter. The Saints are going to have to establish a running game like they did a week ago against the Eagles, but up against the Hawks, and potentially without Pierre Thomas, that’s a tall order for a second straight week. Mark Ingram played well, but the Hawks’ defense is a run killer. Drew Brees didn’t exactly play well the last time these two played. With the NFL Odds having the Hawks as -8 favorites, teasing them down to -2 seems like great value for the first game of the weekend. Since 2012, Seattle is 13-3 SU at home in the regular season and playoffs, and they are 12-4 ATS during that span. Look for them to end up putting away New Orleans.
The Patriots have the Colts this week and the NFL Odds favor New England at -7. I once again really like the favorite’s teaser odds for this Saturday’s game. The Patriots teased down to -1 at home are a great bet, and much like the Hawks, they too are very hard to beat when playing in Boston. The Patriots are 25-9 SU at home since 2012 and with how bad the Colts defense played in the first half of last week, if the Patriots get a lead, they will not blow it at home. Indianapolis has the ability to make this a very close game and that is why these NFL Odds for a teaser play the Patriots seems even more valuable Saturday.
My Pick: 2-team teaser: Seahawks -2 & Patriots -1
Panthers & Chargers
From the two favorites on Saturday, we go to a couple of dogs on Sunday. The first one should be nothing but a fight, as the 49ers head across country to play the Panthers. The NFL Odds are slightly in favor of the 49ers on the road, but a teaser play on the Panthers would make them +7 at home, which has to be the play in my eye. The Panthers have as good of a defense as the Niners and playing at home, I’m worried about the Niners offense. They could not score against the Panthers at home in Week 10, and even though their offense is much healthier now, I doubt they could be a teaser value here.
The Chargers are big +9 ½ underdogs on the road in Denver, and as they have already beaten the Broncos once this season, if their offense is healthy this Sunday, I think they could be our #1 teaser play this week. Ryan Matthews basically didn’t play in the second half of last week’s win over the Bengals, and if he isn’t able to give the Chargers some carries on the road, I might have to change this NFL pick to Broncos -3 ½. However I’m sticking with the Chargers and their hot defense. Right now their defense is better than Denver’s and Phillip Rivers is more than capable of keeping this game within two touchdowns.
My Pick: 2-team teaser: Panthers +7 & Chargers +15 ½
