With two of the better defenses in the NFL colliding I think we're going to see a low-scoring affair between the Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks in Week 6.

NFL odds
NFL odds makers came out with this total at 42 and has now dropped to 41 and 40.5 at some places. For one of your NFL picks today I recommend backing under the total in this matchup. You can still get pretty good odds at Pinnacle Sports under the 40.5 at -105.

Carolina Panthers
Offensively Carolina averages 27 points per game, 322 yards per game, and a third-down 38.46% conversion rate. Their number one in the NFL and how many times a rush the ball at just over 50% of the time. Probably the most surprising statistic they have is that their points per game does not really matchup with their yards per game as they rank sixth in points, but 25th in yards. The Panthers have been one of the better rushing teams in the NFL this season so far averaging 132.2 yards per game on the ground.

Defensively Carolina has allowed 17.8 points per game, 339 yards per game, and a third-down 38.98% conversion rate. They rank in the top five in points allowed per game and they have been very tough and stopping the run allowing just 92 yards per game which ranks sixth in the NFL. Their pass defense isn't bad either allowing opponents just 5.5 yards per pass, ranking third, and a 59.22% completion rate, ranking seventh.

Seattle Seahawks
Seattle averages 22.2 points per game, 356 yards per game, and a third-down 38.57% conversion rate. Like most NFL teams they will put the ball up more with quarterback Russell Wilson but they still rank in the top 10 in rushing attempts per percentage at 46.08%. They might want to think about rushing the ball even more as they rank number one in the NFL at 142.4 yards per game on the ground. With both Carolina and Seattle being primarily rushing offenses look for some slow going in the trenches.

Defensively Seattle allows 19.6 points per game, 306.8 yards per game, and a third-down 34.92% conversion rate. Like Carolina they are ranked in the top 10 in scoring defense and opponent yards per game. Also, like Carolina, they are very strong rushing defense just allowing 92.6 yards on the ground per game. They are a bit susceptible through the air and that is an area I believe they have been addressing this week as they have allowed quarterbacks a 67.95% completion rate. Look for this defense to have a tremendous performance today.

In the last few seasons, not including the playoff game last year, these two teams have fought to some pretty low-scoring games. I'm expecting that same type of hard-fought, ground and pound type of game today. Don't expect either of these teams to light up the scoreboard and for my NFL pick of the day I'm going to take under the total when these two teams meet and Seattle.

NFL Pick: Panthers & Seahawks UNDER 41 (-103) at 5Dimes
