Halfway through the season, the Jags and Ravens have combined for only four wins, but we see an opportunity to cash in our NFL picks with one them on Sunday. Let’s analyze the NFL odds & find a pick.

Jacksonville Jaguars (2-6 SU, 4-4 ATS)
People snicker when they see the Jacksonville Jaguars on their team’s schedule but those who have had the temerity to back them in their NFL picks understand that this Jacksonville team may not have a winning record but only once have they gotten blown out this season. They are a gritty bunch who hung tough last week on the road with the Jets and were able to score a late touchdown to get the cover in their 28-23 defeat.

Blake Bortles is starting to put up big numbers through the air but mistakes are costing his team. The second-year quarterback tossed for a career-high 381 yards against the Jets and is on pace to throw for more than 30 touchdowns and over 4000 yards. Considering that the most TD’s thrown by a Jags QB in a single season is 23, then that is groundbreaking territory for the franchise. However, he did throw two picks and lost a fumble at a critical juncture in last week’s loss to New York.

"We put up a ton of yards, did a lot of good stuff, but it’s the plays you missed out on that you think about at night," Bortles said.

Baltimore Ravens (2-6 SU, 1-6-1 ATS)
The Ravens have had two weeks to prepare for their showdown with the Jaguars after coming off a 29-26 win over the Chargers. Once again, they disappointed their backers as the oddsmakers installed them as four-point home favorites but getting the cover proved too tall a task yet again for the team that has only beaten the NFL odds once in eight opportunities.

When the Ravens last took the field they watched a Justin Tucker field goal sail through the uprights with no time remaining on the clock to eke out a win over the visiting San Diego Chargers. Joe Flacco put up 319 yards through the air with one passing TD and another on the ground. But the victory was not without its consequences as veteran receiver Steve Smith Sr. tore his Achilles and will be gone for the season and stated at the beginning of the 2015 campaign that this season would be his last. Baltimore ranks 10th in passing, 22nd in rushing, 16th in points scored and 25th in points allowed as they prepare to welcome the Jags in Week 10.

NFL Pick
This is a winnable game for Jacksonville who, despite their 2-6 record, is still not out of the hunt in terms of winning the AFC South. That speaks volumes about the division, but if there is an edge to be had between two lousy teams, this is it. This edition of the Baltimore Ravens is far removed from their Super Bowl predecessors, and even though the Jaguars rank 25th in passing yards allowed averaging 264 per game, the Ravens are even worse at 284. Both clubs boast top 10 run stop units but this should contest will be decided through the air. Blake Bortles is still undergoing growing pains but his raw passing ability is emerging. On the other hand, Joe Flacco now has one less weapon at his disposal with the injury to Steve Smith Sr. and has nearly as many picks as Bortles.

Statistically, these two teams are not much different, and the fact that the Baltimore Ravens own the home field advantage, is not enough to mitigate what I feel to be a generous head start for the visitors. Give the Jags a shot here in your NFL picks and you won’t be disappointed.
