With health as the biggest question in Washington DC this season, will the Redskins be mended and gelled enough to win the division again, or will the cloud of uncertainty be too much to overcome in our NFL Picks?

The Washington Redskins are one of the more interesting stories of the NFL this season and last, and their NFL odds are just as intriguing. LVH Sportsbook in Las Vegas has the 'Skins priced at 8 wins this season, and both sides of the bet are priced in at the same at -110.

Unlike some of the other teams in this division, the Redskins have a bit tougher road based on their opponents winning percentage from a season ago. Washington ranks 18th in the NFL in strength of schedule. The 'Skins don’t have a really tough start before their Week 5 bye, but if they don’t come out hot early and go at least 3-1, it might be a tough climb to get back to the playoffs.

After their early bye week, the 'Skins have a wild ride. The first three weeks after their bye are at Dallas, against Chicago at home, and then on the road against Denver. In the second half of their season, things don’t get much easier. In the final eight games of their schedule, they have matches against the Giants (twice), the 49ers and the Falcons on the road. If they can start the season 3-1 SU, I really like their chances of fighting for another playoff spot, but if they don’t have their star player ready for Week 1, I fear a major regression year for the 'Skins.

How does Washington rank against the rest of the NFC East this season?

Week 1

The 'Skins will be the first test for the new and possibly improved Eagles, as Philadelphia heads into DC for Week 1. NFL odds favor Washington at -4.5 on Monday Night Football, with a total of 50.5. We all know about the injury to RG3, but the Redskins are dealing with some other guys coming off of major surgery. Pro-Bowl linebacker Brian Orakpo is still recovering from his surgery, and TE Fred Davis is also still on the med from his Achilles injury.

These guys are crucial to the team's success and, although the season is still a few months away, we will not know if these three names will be ready to take the field on September 9th for at least another month or two. If they aren’t, the Eagles look like they have nice value at +4.5 for your NFL picks.

The Sharp Pick

I’ve been like a broken record when it comes to the 'Skins this season, but we have to wait until we know for sure whether RG3 will return to the field before we place any wagers, He participated in mandatory minicamp a week ago, but until he is in pads and moving like he would in a game, neither the Redskins nor we can tell how he feels. Only Griffin can tell us that and he won’t, so as to not give the Eagles or any other team on their schedule a hint. For now, I do like the over with the Skins, but it all comes down to health and if they are ready to play early in the season. If they cannot win three games to start their season, I see a non-playoff season for DC fans.

My Pick: ‘Over’ 8 -110

Week 1 Lean: Eagles +4.5 at Bet365
