Odds Overview

Despite a putrid 0-6 record for the season, the Giants are favored by either three or three-and-a-half points at the sportsbooks for Monday Night Football.

The total is at 46.5 or 47 depending on the sports betting site. The ‘Over’ has been very profitable in games featuring both teams this season, with the trend a perfect 5-0 for Minnesota and 4-2 for New York.

Minnesota Vikings

Matt Cassel was given a fair shot to secure the starting job, but after his putrid performance last week it's been decided that Josh Freeman will be the new starter.

Freeman was picked up after getting released by the Buccaneers and has reportedly impressed his coaches with his ability to digest the playbook quickly. The fact he gets an extra day to soak everything in helps too.

The Vikings have the talent on the offensive side of the ball to do some damage, but it'll be up to Freeman to put it all together. Cassel and Christian Ponder have had their chances to prove their worth, but neither has done enough to lock down the job.

Regardless of Freeman's play, Minnesota still has major problems defensively. They rank #30 in total defense right now, as they've given up 308.0 YPG through the air (#29 in the NFL) and 110.0 YPG on the ground (#16).

Having allowed 31.6 PPG through their five matchups, the Vikings have to sort things out on the defensive side of the ball if they're to make any kind of noise for the rest of the season.

New York Giants

As bad as the Vikings have looked at times, they've still managed to win more games than Eli Manning and the Giants.

New York hung around with Chicago on Thursday Night Football last week, only to lose 27-21 at Soldier Field as 9.5-point underdogs on the NFL odds board. It was the Giants' first ATS cover of the season.

Brandon Jacobs turned back the clock to run for 106 yards and two touchdowns, but Manning was picked off three times, now giving him an unacceptable 15 total interceptions through six games. The Super Bowl winner had 15 picks in all of the 2012/13 season.

However, like Minnesota, the Giants are having major issues defensively, ranking #24 in total defense by giving up an average of 391.3 yards per game.

Is this the week things start to come together for New York? The Giants have played two prolific offensive teams in Denver and Philadelphia in their two home games, so this meeting with Minnesota should theoretically be a walk in the park. Only time will tell.

Week 7 Pick

This is as good as a chance the Giants are going to get to notch their first win of the season. They're at home, on the national stage, playing a similarly struggling team in Minnesota.

With our NFL picks, we look for New York, with over 10 days to rest and prepare, to win and cover the short spread here on Monday night.

This is a good matchup for Manning and the Giants offense. They've been having success throwing the ball and come up against a Vikings defense that can't stop anyone in that regard. Manning should have one of his better performances of the season.

Everyone's been waiting for New York to finally get their act together and get a win, and we feel as if Week 7 is the right spot.
