The Buffalo Bills were impressive in their preseason opener, but they may take a step back against the Minnesota Vikings with the return of one of their signal-callers Friday.

Let’s take a closer look at the NFL betting odds for this Week 2 preseason matchup at Ralph Wilson Stadium, with the opening kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.

Very little gained

Minnesota was handed a 27-13 loss by the Houston Texans as one-point home favorites last Friday, while going ‘Over’ the betting total of 35.5.

The Vikings were out-gained by 143 yards in the contest, with the first-team offense playing just two snaps—something that head coach Leslie Frazier must take into account when preparing a game plan for his roster in this affair.

Impressive opener

Buffalo overcame an early seven-point deficit to walk away with a 44-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts as 4.5-point road underdogs Sunday, while going well ‘Over’ the betting total of 35.5.

The Bills were led by the play of rookie quarterback EJ Manuel, who completed 16 of his 21 passes for 107 yards and a touchdown.

Success in this series

NFL handicappers will likely lean in the direction of the Bills due to how they looked in their opening game in comparison to the Vikings, but that’s often a mistake during the exhibition schedule.

Minnesota has also managed to cover six of its last seven opportunities in Week 2 of the NFL preseason schedule.

A potential return

League insiders expected the Bills to have one of the more compelling quarterback battles in the league, but Manuel likely gained the upper hand on his competitors with his first performance as a professional since being drafted in the first round out of Florida State.

Former Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles signal-caller Kevin Kolb will likely make his debut Friday, as he didn’t participate in the opener due to a knee injury he suffered early on in camp.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Vikings in this affair for their NFL picks, as the Bills are 0-6 ATS as favorites off a double-digit win in preseason play.
