After a split last week our NFL handicapper looks to the totals board for the best value early in the week. Read on and pounce on these lines early before they move out of whack.

I split two totals on the last week with one side of the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles sure to stumble, hitting on the Under, while the Cowboys and Giants didn’t get the Over in something like a decade. Lived to fight another week, though, and I’m looking at tailing some trends and finding new value as we go into Week 2. Here are my top totals plays of the week.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Cleveland Browns
Sticking with the Browns this week, as their ineptitude on offense wasn’t improved with the arrival of Robert Griffin III over the offseason in Week 1. And… he’s done. Quite unfortunate for the Browns fans as Robert Griffin III broke his shoulder bone in Week 1 and has been placed on injured reserve, which means he is not eligible to return until Week 10. It is such a Browns thing to have to happen that I don’t know why anyone is surprised. Cleveland has two first-round draft picks and two second round picks in 2017, and one can probably guess that the Browns are either shopping those picks for the leavings at QB of another team already or just planning to stockpile high picks again. Eventually, that team will be so loaded with talent they might be able to hit the .500 mark. Hey, at least the baseball team is pretty good in Cleveland now. Josh McCown will take over the reign at quarterback as a game manager type player.

The Ravens have come out of Week 1 relatively healthy and enjoyed a 13-7 stifling win of the Buffalo Bills to start the season. It was a great defensive effort, as the Bills could only put up 65 running yards and 95 passing yards total on the day. The Bills went a putrid 23.1% on third down conversions and were forced to punt 7 times. However, the Ravens weren’t much better in converting at 40% on the day.

Josh McCown draws a tough assignment in his first game as a starter, but the Ravens offense isn’t lighting the world on fire either in averaging less than 17 points in their last three games. The Under of 43 looks great here as I see at least one, if not both, of these offenses putting up a stinker.

Tennessee Titans vs. Detroit Lions
Ok, with Detroit’s 39-35 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1 there will be a lot of squares tailing them on the Over. Detroit’s offense is lethal right now and they put up 448 total yards on Indy with a good mix of run and pass plays. Of course, Detroit also gave up 450 yards, with the secondary getting burned for 350 passing yards. Can Tennessee take advantage of Detroit’s poor defense? I think they can. The Titans did have some bright spots against a very tough Minnesota defense that was playing like their life depended on it because Shaun Hill wasn’t going to bail them out. The Titans were 57.1% in 3rd down conversions in the game, after all. Look for Tajae Sharpe to continue his breakout season receiving for Tennessee.

In my write up of Tennessee versus Minneapolis, I also picked the under because Tennessee could focus on the Vikings run game, with Shaun Hill starting. They were successful in limiting the Vikings to 65 rushing yards, but also got no pressure on the quarterback at all and did not sack Hill once. That won’t cut it with Mathew Stafford at QB, as the balanced attack will have the Titans second guessing themselves. Detroit should not have an issue moving the ball in this game, and played more up the tempo in Week 1 to boot.
